My Chatterbaits Blow. To Be Frank.

Featured Replies

My chatterbaits that I have been creating have problems. Each lure has a small zone of retrieve speed where it will run right, other wise it won't woble or it will spin or veer off. And the hardware gets all tangled up sometimes. I can not burn or rip my lures like I can a factory made chatterbait brand, my lures would run all out of wack. Is this bad luck or is my hardware mismatched, or is this normal?

Is this bad luck

maybe

 is my hardware mismatched

probably

 is this normal?

you already answered this one yourself

If a lure is spinning around, that means something isnt straight. whether it be the blade, the line tie, the hook, the trailer, the jig, whatever. something isnt straight.

Yes post pics.

Sounds to me like you're fishing a standard shaker blade as it comes in the package.

Should I bend back the top flat part of the blade?

I bent the blade back. see how it runs next time I go to the river. Maybe I'll get some pics up. Bluebasser, can you burn your lures fast and they run true?

If I bend them too straight they will run true at high speeds (although I never fish mine fast). I bend mine so they hunt during the retrieve. If you make sure to keep the bend straight they'll run at high speeds though.

i attach my blades directly to my hook, i used a moddified poisontail mold. i use the standard blade and i dont bend them. i have not had any problems with them (3/8oz) at any speed or retrieve style.
