Hey guys I'm looking for the best cheap battery for a Minn Kota 32lb thrust trolling motor. Just need the cheapest one with the most rc minutes. The only thing I'll be powering is the trolling motor, nothing else. Thanks.

I use the marine batteries from Wal Mart, Everstart    I have had good luck with them and they are reasonable.   make sure it is a deep cycle battery.   I would guess a marine battery from a farm and fleet, menards or whatever you have down there would be fine.  just make sure you put a low charge on them as soon as you are done for the day and you should get a good life out of it.

Yup - I agree with Crankenstien.  Go with the Walmart EverStart.

Anybody have any luck with the Costco Deep Cycle Marine batteries? The Everstart 24 at Walmart is $75 and you get 101 RC minutes. And the Costco deep cycle is $72 and you get 140 RC minutes. Both batteries have a 1 year warranty.

Costco is giving you about 30% more battery for less money.

 

I also think you are looking at the wrong, or not the best best, Everstart battery,  You should be looking at the Maxx,24DC.  It's approx. $90 and carries a two year warranty.  It's probably closer to the RC numbers of the Costco if not a few more.  Which, other than the warranty, Costco's is still the batter deal as far as the most bang for the buck.

The proper charge rate is 10% of the rated capacity. Which in the battery world that is considered a slow charge. 115 Ah battery would be charged with a 10-12 amp charger. A 75 Ah battery would use a 6-8 amp charger.

The maxx 24dc has 92 RC Minutes, 10 less RC minutes than the regular 24dc. The Costco Deep Cycle has 140 RC Minutes so it has 50 more. Don't know why but the maxx series at Walmart has less minutes than the regular series deep cycle.

Look into stoway batteries. Academy sports and napa auto center sells them around here. Great batteries for what you are looking for.

I found an Everstart 24dc deep discharge marine battery and I also found an Everstar 24 ms which did not say deep discharge which I believe was 69 bucks in the other one was like $84 that said deep discharge do I want the Deep discharge Everstart?

You do if it's for a trolling motor.  

 

Deep cycle batteries are designed to be heavily drained in between recharges.  These are good for trolling motors, powering RV's, and stuff like that.  Normal batteries, also called starter batteries, are designed to give high amperage for very short bursts, and then be recharged almost immediately.  They're mostly suited for starting big gas engines that require a lot of power to crank start (like a boat or car), but then can run on their own, without a battery, afterwards.  Many will even have an alternator to recharge the battery once the motor starts.
