Need Some Advice

Featured Replies

Im finally getting out on the water tomorrow in a boat and according to the weather it should be an awesome day down here in MD. high 70's with some cloud cover all day. my plan is to flip and pitch most of the day (my strongest fishing style and i think its just flat out fun) but im not sure what rod I should use. The jig sizes i'll be using are 1/4 to 3/8. The only two casting rods I have with me right now are a: Shimano 6'6'' medium fast and an Abu 7'0'' medium heavy. I like the shimano because of the greater sensitivity but it lacks backbone which leads to weak/missing hooksets sometimes, especially at distance. The Abu obviously has plenty of backbone but lacks sensitivity plus the guide insert in the top eye is missing and it scares me that it'll fray and break my line if i hook into a pig. If you were me, what would you do? Thanks

I would not use the abu without a guide insert there`s a good chance of the line breaking on a hawg,Are you using Fluoro or braid? What lb. test?

fluoro 14#

fluoro 14#

I would use the shimano you don't wanna risk loosing a big un'.

Well, did you catch any?

Use the shimano for the the time being....switch to braid with fluoro leader (less stretch) for the time being! If it's a high end Abu rod have a professional repair the tip! Don't fish without an insert!
