  1. its funny you say that cause I've lived in MD my whole life...I hear they aren't making kids parallel park for their drivers license anymore either..wth is happening
  2. Im laughing just picturing it haha must've been a sight to see
  3. I know what you mean. bought it yesterday, took it out today and felt like I was in second grade all over again trying to learn to write cursive.....very painful to watch lol
  4. found a reel I reely liked (see what i did there ) but they didnt have the gear ratio I wanted in a left hand retrieve so I said f it and bought the right handed
  5. I recently made the switch from left-handed retrieve to right-handed and its not going so well haha I've always used left-handed because it felt more natural and because of a wrist injury that made it somewhat painful to control the rod with my left hand. The transition isnt going as smoothly as projected. Any suggestions or tips?
  6. from my experience this past weekend, like everyone else is mentioning, they are deep. caught 2 big females this weekend in about 10-15 feet of water. one on a jig, the other on a shaky head
  7. costa. pricey but worth every penny. like its been mentioned already x amount of cheap sunglasses over time will cost more than one pair that will last a lifetime.
  8. Im finally getting out on the water tomorrow in a boat and according to the weather it should be an awesome day down here in MD. high 70's with some cloud cover all day. my plan is to flip and pitch most of the day (my strongest fishing style and i think its just flat out fun) but im not sure what rod I should use. The jig sizes i'll be using are 1/4 to 3/8. The only two casting rods I have with me right now are a: Shimano 6'6'' medium fast and an Abu 7'0'' medium heavy. I like the shimano because of the greater sensitivity but it lacks backbone which leads to weak/missing hooksets sometimes, especially at distance. The Abu obviously has plenty of backbone but lacks sensitivity plus the guide insert in the top eye is missing and it scares me that it'll fray and break my line if i hook into a pig. If you were me, what would you do? Thanks
  9. you're still plenty young enough I wouldnt worry too much about it especially with summer break right around the corner. if fishing is something you truly love, you'll find the time. And even if you cant make more time to fish, just enjoy the time you do get to spend fishing. I just graduated college and landed a full time job working almost 60 hrs a week. I thank my lucky stars every time i get even an hour to make a few casts
  10. never taken my yellow lab on a boat but i assume she would love the cool breeze blowing off the water and would be perfectly content just sun bathing on the deck but i quickly learned my lesson about taking her with me when im on foot...no matter how much i cuss and scream, she wont stay out of the water lol
  11. hahahaha great story! laughed the whole time while reading and picturing it in my head. thanks mike
  12. There's a local pond I frequently fish along with every other fisherman plus their mothers. In other words it is highly, highly pressured. The only reason I go is because of Big Momma. She's somewhat of a local legend around these parts. She's every bit of 8lbs and then some. To my knowledge, she has only been caught once in the last 5 or so years and I would like to add my name to the short but prestigious list of people to out-wit her. She is already on her bed and I have thrown every type of creature bait, in every color possible, and every shape and size. Does anyone know of or have any tips or tricks that I may have overlooked? Techniques? Just trying to rack my brain for something different to try. Any and all suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  13. So for the last few weeks I have been exclusively fishing smaller ponds/reservoirs around my school (in the mountains of western MD) because well that's pretty much all I can do without owning a boat or kayak or having to drive hours away. I like to think that even though i have not been catching quality fish the quantity of fish i'm catching is really developing my skills. i've been keeping somewhat of a mental note and im somewhere around 50+ fish in the last two and a half odd weeks, but only fishing 3 times a week at most which i think is pretty d**n good. I've been challenging myself to use lures and or different styles that i normally do not use as i would like to become a more well-rounded bass fisher. My fishing confidence is at an all time high and just in time for the semester to be over where i'll be back home where I live less than 20 minutes from two of the best mid atlantic fisheries, that also happen to be two of Roland Martins favorites as well. I know that all the bass i've been catching are all buck males so its not all that impressive but i hope that all this practice and time i've spent perfecting techniques will pay off and help me land a real lunker and a new pb bass this year. I have only been fishing "seriously" for about 3 years now and all i can say is that i am truly addicted to the sport and truly look forward to fishing for the rest of my life. Thanks for reading, Peace. Alex
  14. any luck today? i've been a couple times already this year but just beat the bank. had some luck but no big females yet. think im gonna rent a boat next weekend. my buddy went this past saturday and caught 5 before 11am
  15. your sarcasm is hard to pick up over the interweb hahaha but thanks for the welcoming roger
  16. never really had a problem with them seeing my line. Actually caught my pb sight fishing in 6+ feet of water on a weightless senko with braid straight to the hook, but too each his own i suppose
  17. hahaha why so? I know everyone has different reasons for using a leader but what specifically are yours?
  18. Am I the only one who never uses a leader when fishing with braid? never really saw the need and as far as I can tell it doesn't affect the number or size of fish I catch in really clear water
  19. hahahahahahaha "stop singing" nothing's worse than having a fishing partner/buddy who takes it a little too serious. sure focus and attention are needed but keeping the mood light has always made even the worst days enjoyable
  20. The easiest thing you can do to try and find fish on a new or unfamiliar body of water is research. check out your states dnr fishing page, local blogs, etc.. Eventually you should be able to find some info on spots, lures, presentation, etc.. I've found great success with this method seeing as I do not own a boat and mostly bank fish, which is not a bad thing as someone already mentioned. This time of year you can easily catch bass in 1-2ft of water. Just fish with whatever you're confident in and the fish will come. trial and error. Best of luck
  21. trailer is a must, for me at least, when I'm fishing a spinner. I always see pros in tournaments throwing spinners without trailers so I never used to use them, but the first time I put a trailer on I hooked into a 4.1 lber first cast and haven't looked back since. Almost always use the zoom swimmin super fluke jr too. The action of the paddle tail really entices the fish. trailer hooks can be very effective, but I've also had trouble getting them stuck when I throw at cover when I normally wouldn't get stuck without the trailer hook
  22. anyone on here fish Loch Raven? Been this year? Interested to hear how others are making out
