Hey guys! I am new to this forum. I recently found a rod in a garage sale. It is the Kunnan Graphite Advantage Fuji FPS-16 Model 747651L 7'66" 229cm 2-8lb line.

 

 

paid 35$. Was that a good price? and how much do they go for? and is it some vintage brand? is it also a good rod to use for beginner freshwater fishing trouts?

A somewhat old discontinued brand--referred to as "Vintage".

I have a couple of Kunan baitcasting rods and a flyrod.

I use the variable length baitcaster occasionally.

 

Did have a couple of the Boron versions that exploded "way back when".

 

If you are happy with your purchase, you are OK. Some are on Ebay.

 

The factory burned down in about 1990.

I had a Kunnan Advantage 6'6" 3wt fly rod. I remember paying $45 for it at a local sport shop when I was in high school, maybe 1989? I beat the hell out of it. I sold it at a yard sale 15 years ago along with the Berkley reel I had on it.

whoa interesting guys ! When i saw "Fuji" I was like hmmmm cameras. Yeah at first, the guy wanted a somewhat high price. But I had to get it since it gave off this vintage feel. Then there was the shakespeare stick. 

During the late 70s Kunnan was one of the first companies to intriduce cheap carbon fiber rod blanks. Some suggest it was started by ex-Fenwick employees although that has never been verified. For reasons unknown the San Diego based company went out of business, some say it was the result of a factory fire, what's unclear is whether the factory was based in the USA or overseas.

Some claim that Kunnan rods were 3 times cheaper than similar rods on the market which left other brands little options but to follow suit. Kunnan may have been responsible for somewhat of a fishing rod prive revelution.

Kunnan has a loyal following who believe their products were superior with better blanks, stronger components, and better quaility.

Wow what a blast from the past. Now for $35.00 vs anything else out there, I think you got a great price. Who knows, maybe you'll pass it on to someone that would pay $35.00 and then it didn't cost you a thing!
