There are over 11,842 lakes in MN but only 2,727 in Missouri...   Yet the KC area fishing reports thread is 384 pages compared to our 6 pages...  WHAT GIVES?

Best is yet to come guys. Was out 2 weekends ago and got on a bunch of 3-5lb fish and my father-in-law got his PB at 6.92lbs. Weighed on 2 different digital scales. Pretty awesome moment for the both

  • Nice! I did some remodeling at my hosue over the weekend, but I did manage to sneak out tonight for a few hours with my 5yo daughter. We hit a north metro lake by my house at about 6pm. Water temps we

The topwater bite was still hot this weekend but there were a lot less fish shallow. Temps are now in the low 70's in the metro. I got out Saturday & Sunday morning, and Sunday Evening. I had a 4.5lber smoke my xrap prop bait in about 4-5 feet of water, and pulled in about a dozen fish off a popper. I think next weekend I'm going to start cranking and tossing plastics in the 4-10 foot range outside of weedlines and see if the fish have started to move off the shores a bit. As long as they keep hitting topwater tho that's what I'm gonna toss.. it's way to fun to stop.

I got out the 16th - 20th in the Bemidji area.  Water temps hovered around 68 degrees.  The fish seemed to have moved from shallow water to the first break with weeds or to heavy weed beds.  Most fish were caught in  5 - 12 feet.  When it was breezy, I found fish shallower in thick weeds. Caught most burning a spinnerbait over the weeds.  One day was calm and caught more fish that day throwing plastic worms to outside weed edges.    The weeds are starting to fill in, and the bite should become more predictable.  Tried some topwater and caught a few on a popper, also tried a x-rap prop bait, but I need practice.  I like fishing  topwater, but I don't have as much confidence in top water so I do not use them as much as I should.  Hopefully with a little warm weather the bite will really pick up!!

Fathers day

Water 72°+/-

Temp 80°

Clear lake (Forest Lake)

The bite was good (for my brother in law..... not me) we found bass shallow in the weed pockets, but not quite under the docks. That was north end of the lake.

The northern bite was bad, but I did pull in a small walleye in the shallows.

Hot bait of the day way a rat l trap and rattlin rap in chrome.

Golden Lake

It started out real bad. I went to my favorite lake I tried to get my boat started, trolling motor craped out, and my battery never charged..

So we shore fished golden. Started out slow, so I went out to the pier and what a great decision. Was pulling out 1lber no problem.

But then I casted and the end caught it and sent it into the Lilly's.. no prob, I have the line a tug and came right out, but I was floored with what happened next. As the lure (Lily and all) goes skipping across the water this lunker just blows up on it. It was a solid 5 lb if not closer to 6 and about 21.. 22 in.

I've fished medicine lake a couple of times the shallow bite is no good bass seen to be on submerged points in 10 to 14 feet o water and move on and up the points to 6' water morning and dusk. I have also fished fish lake in maple grove and bass can be caught on a frog in Lilly pads all day and bass are biting on Rock piles un 10 to 14' water on jigs and crank baits

Was out tonight on a south metro lake tonight.  Fished from 6-9:30.  Fish were in the shallows...nothing over 17 inches.  Got a few strikes deep but didn't see a ton deep yet.  Would love to hear other's experiences as to where you are finding 'em.

I hit Lake George in St Francis last night. Water temps was about 80-83. Fished from about 4pm till sundown. Bass were NOT shallow, which has been the theme for me the last few outings. Once the water temps in the metro tick above 80 I've always found that there's a point where the fish head out to 10-15 feet and hang out there all the way into mid August.

Anyways, we trolled and casted DT4's up and down the outside weed lineds and absolutely hammered pike & bass. We put about 20 fish in the boat, best bass was a nice 3lber. George isn't really known for big bass (in my experience at least) so I was happy to pull out one nice one. The pike action was off the hook though! I was surprised how many fish we were catching in flat bottom open water in about 15'. On the electronics I was picking up a lot of fish hanging out 7'-10' deep and they had no problem running down crankbaits last night.

I would have liked to slow down and toss some shakey heads but we were having too much fun blasting the pike. Try crankbaits outside the weeds fellas. That time of year.

George was 80+ deg surface temps??  That's creeping up there and we got some hot weather closing in on us.

I was on Chisago yesterday.  77 deg max.  The catching was good but still kinda spread out.  I was expecting some tighter groups but never found any.  Nothing over 17" either and I expected bigger bites, did lose one that was likely 18+" but he don't count.  No solid patterns emerged.  It was a matter of junk fishing.  I even hit a few docks and I hate dock fishing.  I was going to try N/S Center tomorrow... or maybe Green.

Random question, do any of you guys have experience fishing Lake Carlos up by Alex? I've just fished it once but we're going to be staying 3 nights next weekend and I'd like to pick someone's brain who's had some experience on it. Thanks!

dropshots, t-rigs, and jigs on the deep weeds by the points. use watermelon, and green pumpkin type colors for best success. i typically fish it anywhere from 10-30 fow... good luck

Mitch

Last weekend found them in about 6-8 fow in the slop.  Used weighted plastics...casted around heavy surface weeds and let them sink for a few secs.  Black and blue baby brush hogs did it for me.

I have not been able to find a consistent bite deep yet.

Went to lake minnewashta yesterday on 8-7-15 on my yak, not quantity fishing, but QUALITY, it was amazing I caught a 6lb and a 5lber, I had caught a total of around 13 fish, 12 bass and 1 little baby pike, the other bass were really nice for minnesota ;) just was using a spinner bait the whole time, it was white with no trailers or anything, I was really surprised, I was also just casting near docks and isolated weed patches and public beaches, just fished for about 5 or so hours

Awesome! I'm still on the quest for a +6 pounder. I've gotten so close with some high 5's. Spinnerbait action eh? I'll have to give the spinnerbait a whirl this week.

I fished for a few hours Saturday morning on a local metro lake. I was expecting a nice topwater bite because it was calm, overcast, and the fish have been shallow in the early morning. I had a little action on the chug bug, but they wernt hammering it like i expected. I gave up and switched to a t-rigged biospawn craw and tossed it around 6-10 foot weed lines and hammered a really nice 4lber. It was a tough morning but I boated like 3 good fish.

I fished a very small (10 boats) tournament Saturday and everybody thought it was going to be a great day. Turned out everybody struggled. It was from 6-12 in the morning and I had 1 fish by 11:00. Managed to fill out the limit and win big bass by fishing docks with light jigs, broke off on another nice one but couldn't get any to take a top water. Had a couple blow ups but they missed it by a good foot so I didn't stay with it too long. Couldn't get a deep bite going either. Congrats on the #6!

Fish hugged close to cover in the shallows for me on SAT morn.  Feeding on fry and other small fish I assume.  Found them to aggressively hit weighted plastics.  Light pumpkin colored did it for me.

Tried deep for a while and came up empty.  Could see them on the finder but couldn't get them to bite.  More a reflection of my poor jig skills than anything I wonder....but no one else around me was slaying them deep either.

Forgot about this topic this year. Fished today for 6hrs and ended up with 90 bass and 40 northerns between my partner and I. Most fish came on squarebills in 6-10ft on the outside weed edge. Did manage a few on light t-rigs, jigs, and swimbaits. Ended up with 12 fish over 3lbs with big fish for the day at 4.02lbs.

Tell me what lake that was so I can avoid it!  That's WAY too many gators for me.  Nice job on the bass though!!

Fished another tourney on Saturday and caught most of my fish around 20ft on a drop shot. Then switched to flipping some milfoil in 15ft with a 1 ounce weight and culled 4 out. Less bites but bigger bites. I believe it was won out in 25ft.

17-24 mph winds is the forecast this weekend.  I've heard that this can stir the fish up to feed in packs.  Its a no go however in a kayak.  Stay safe out there.

Thanks! Its gonna make things interesting fishing and driving the boat. Life jackets are on for driving the boat for sure. It'll be cool to hear how everybody does.

The water temp sure dropped fast. Was low 70s in the north metro. It was in the 80s a week ago. I had a hard time locating the bass the other night. They weren't hitting deep or shallow for me. Only boated 2.

Thanks Jeff! I hadn't fished the lake in 3 years and was surprised how many little hammer handles were in there. Didn't lose a single lure all day. I figured it was inevitable.  It was nice to see some of the bass grow up in the lake as well. Looks like a windy weekend ahead of us.

Just got in from fishing. The wind was too much but I lasted for quiet a while. It was some of my best fishing this year. Caught a few over 20" and a ton of 18"-20" bass. I couldn't believe how great it was. Gonna have to give it a go tomorrow morning too.
