I got to do a little shore fishing this afternoon. It was windy and the the barometer was falling. Through trial and error I finally started getting bit on a chrome and blue lipless crankbait. The three fish I caught were 2 & 3 pounders. The problem was how many similar ones I lost! My hooks were sharp but they kept throwing the bait when I got them in close. Sometimes I just get frustrated with myself. I was apparently letting them have too much slack.

Stitch it very well could have been a light bite as well.  Sometimes they just swat at them.  I know you are good enough to not be giving them too much slack.  Don't be so hard on yourself! 

 

Glad you got out and caught fish!

I hear ya. When they are on crank baits good I will sometimes switch to a longer rod with a softer and more parabolic bend. You still never win every round.

Stitch I heard you had a better day today. Tough to keep a good fisherman down.

Today is the kind of day a guys wants every time out. First off, all my local fishing friends were busy, so I had to take the boat alone. The grand tally was ............a striper, 15 total largemouth ( biggest , just over 3 ) , a walleye, a crappie, and a perch. Almost all caught on a Spro Little John, cellmate pattern. To top it all off; I saw a giant snapping turtle, three ospreys and had a mature bald eagle perch in a tree right overhead. Dang it was a good day !!

Sounds like a GREAT day to me!!

When the fish are biting tentatively, a lipless crankbaitj, with it's smaller than average back trebles, will lose a lot of fish.  In Canada I lost something like 7 smallies in a row on rattle spots.  I wasn't a happy camper after awhile.

Got into the stripers again this morning. They were smashing zara puppies. At 10 am they shut down as if someone had pulled the switch.

Even if the fish are not biting  taking the time to enjoy the Ospreys and Eagles make it worthwhile .

 

On your first post , on days where the fish keep comnig unbuttoned . I make small changes like color , different brand , size... to see if it helps. Sometimes I get it right and other times not.  I have finally settled in on a crankbait rod . 7 foot med action .
