What Line To Flip With?

Featured Replies

I am getting into flipping wood and brush piles and wanted to know which type of line was the best at it. I was told by a local bass pro that fluorocarbon is not the best for flipping wood because it tends shatter under high strain in cover, he said that heavy mono filament was best for flipping wood and brush. Can anyone shed some light on this topic and help me out?

You will get a bunch of different answers to this. I fish 15 to 20# co polymer line for flippin and pitchin....

But I also know guys that use fluorocarbon and braid for this also...

I've pulled fish out of lily pads all spring with 50# braid and a 16# fluoro leader. A couple were over six pounds. In my mind, if the fluoro didn't shatter when it's tied as a short leader to braid, it definitely wouldn't shatter if it was used by itself.

If I'm flippin into slop or brush piles I use Tuff-Line 50# braid, and a high ratio reel.  I want to get them out of their hidey-holes as fast as I can.  Most of my reels are spooled with 30# braid and a flouro leader of differing sizes, but no leader when there's a good possibility that I may get wrapped up.

Flipping as in pulling the line with one hand and dropping bait into weed pockets or pitching as in being 10ft+ away from target area?

IMO 2 totally different techniques. Pitching I use 12#FC 15# if there's a lot of brush and rocks. Flipping I use 17-20# FC in clear water or 30# braid in dirty water.

I don't flip any more.

I usually Pitch 30 lb P line with a 20 lb Fluorocarbon leader.

I pitch into cover with 40lb braid and sometimes use a 20lb fluoro leader.

I just started using Sufix 832 braid 65# with an 18" P-Line CX leader 20# or 15# depending on cover. Love it!

Most of my flipping/pitching outfits are spooled with 50lb Seaguar Smackdown or Kanzen line.

Have you tried Sufix 832?  Was wondering what your opinion is on the casting differences are between the to braids ect...?

I'm not to happy with Seaguar.

     20 pound invisx/abrasx...nuff said.

To each his own, I will rarely flip braid, i just found flour=more bites....its how i caught my PB.

I personally have more confidence in braid, but you can get bite more with Fluro
