Miami Peacock Bass- What Line Should I Use ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm taking a trip to Miami in August and plan on doing some Peacock Bass fishing. I see a lot of members live in that area and I was hoping to get some first hand recommendations based on your experiences.

I normally use monofilimant line here, and was wondering if I should make the switch over to braid for this trip ?

I use a spinning setup and a baitcasting setup and plan on bringing both.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I use 6'6 ml spinning rod w/10# braid.  If you normally fish mono stick with what you are comfortable with.

I just recently had the chance to fish for peacocks in the Miami area for the first time myself. I used 20lb braid with a leader but I think I would have gotten more bites with a lighter line that was harder to see in the clear water I was fishing. I only had 2 combos with me though and felt braid would be more versatile so that's what I took.

I have landed many beautiful Pea's with 12 lb yozuri. Braid will do the trick too, but if you are going to use fast moving baits the yozuri will serve you better. Also, our canals down here have a lot limestone, so if the Pea decides to do a hard run into the limestone, kiss your braid goodbye. Best of luck when you come down. August is going to be hot!! But Pea's love hot weather. ;)

I usually use braid with a 6lb Cxx leader. No problems catching them when they cooperate.

Thanks for the advice fellers. My trip to Miami isn't specifically for fishing, but I will be able to get 1 entire day in dedicated to fishing. I'll post my results in August !

Thanks.
