Quest For Top Water Strike.....tomorrow!

Featured Replies

Hey guys looking for my first top water bass tomorrow of 2015. Temperature tomorrow here in central North Carolina will be 90°

How early should I get and what would be the best lure to use on a partly cloudy day with no wind?

I have plenty of colors of frogs and buzz baits.

Lake should be pretty quiet as the weekdays hardly anyone goes. I am off work tomorrow. :-)

I'd like to be out as soon as it's light enough to launch safely.

I'd start early and chuck a buzzbait first thing, then switch to a popper/frog.

Over the weekend, I was out at 5AM with my buzzbait. Sunrise was 5:45, but it was light enough to see and to catch fish!

You can never be too early

Buzzbait, Buzzbait and Buzzbaits early in the am later on frogs in the pads.

If the water surface is still I would use a walk the dog type of bait like a spook or Sammy. If there is chop on the water I like a popper type like the popmax. The LC gunfish is a nice compromise as it does both walk and pop. If there are weeds around the surface a buzz frog or hollow body frog would be a nice choice. Wind and weeds usually dictate what I will try.

The first 12-20 min throw a Buzz(prefferably White/Red) and then switch to a small medium frog and hit the cover! Try it! Buzz then the frog.

I would for sure try a spook.

I want to get a topwater strike on my spro shad. Hopefully tomorrow evening.
