What Do You Thinks About 30Lb Suffix 832 Braid?

Featured Replies

What are your thoughts on throwing 30 lb Sufix 832 braid on my 7'7 medium heavy Shimano Compre flipping Stick? Is the line to light to throw a 1 oz jig or like a 3/4 oz flipping weight in pads? What would you feel comfortable throwing with that Rod reel and line combo?

I threw a 1oz on a 7'2" MH Cumara with a 20 lb Sniper FC leader and had no problem at all. I would probably have preferred to have a H stick, but didn't have mine with me.

The brand doesn't matter.

If the rod specs are 1oz and over you should be good.

I wouldn't feel comfortable throwing into a matted grass area, but 30# would be fine in a pad field, just keep that in mind if a fish gets caught up in a bunch of stems.

I use 832 #65. Cast great and will not break.

Trying 40# Kast King on a lighter rod. I'll use it around open water cover. Docks, fallen trees or branches...with a Jig or Worm.

I'd go with 40lb. Not all that much thicker, but is quite a bit stronger.

Up to the rod not the line to handle the weight of a lure.  I use 15# in heavier cover, 20# if I'm snakehead fishing.

I use the 20# 832 in HEAVY cover and have had no problems.  One of the ponds I fish you could walk across it the weeds are so thick.  You should be fine with the 30# 832.

I'm going to a lighter weight braid. The 65# knots are to big. Especially with the micro's. I used 40# yesterday and liked it. I'm also going to try 30#.

The 40# leader knots are much smaller and the line casts great and feels great on the spool. I was trowing traps with it.

Right now I have 40 lb Sufix 832 on for those lure weights (3/4 - 1 oz) and it feels perfect. When I started to throw lighter lures in the 3/8 range the line felt a little heavy and affected casting distance- it would slow down quite a bit near the end of the cast. I think 30 lb would be perfectly fine for your application.
