Trying To Use Braid / Fluoro On Spinning And Need Some Tips

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have started to experiment with using braid with a fluoro leader on a spinning reel. Setting up is not a problem but fishing it is a bit different. I usually look for the line jumps with mono for plastics like worms and such. With the braid, am I just feeling for the bite since it's so hard to see the moss green line in the water.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Power Pro makes a yellow braid if you want to line watch. You don't have to be only feeling for the bite.

Thanks, I am curious, do most people just feel for the bite with the braid/fluoro setup on a spinning setup?

Monofilament is not very sensative so you will be looking at your line for bites.  Braid is much more sensitive so you will feel bites much better.  Just get use to using it and soon you won't even need to look at your line.

Ive tried braid on spinning before and did not enjoy that at all

Would suggest nanofil for spinning instead

I  don't get the difference between nanofil and braid.  Both are very small diameter lines with zero stretch that cast very nicely.  The only difference I see is that nanofil is more demanding on knots.  And it may not be as durable as braid.'

With both nanofil and braid you will feel fish take the lure much easier than with mono.  There are times with braid/nanofil that fish will pick up and move and you will detect it by your line moving out of position.  If you cannot see the line well then use the yellow braid or white nanofil with a 6-7 foot leader, and you're back in business with watching the line.

I really prefer the braid/nanofil line on spinning finesse fishing.  So much better feel.

Braid made a world of difference in sensitivity over mono to me.  As long as I don't fish with too much slack in the line I can feel the bites.  Do you lay the line over your finger or just hold the rod?  I feel it in my index finger.

I fish braid on spinning for manageability, I never watch my line.  Much of my fishing is in the dark, can't see the line and daytime fishing I'm looking to where I want my next cast to go.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I will probably try my best to get a feel on for a bite on braid. Whenever the line has to be changed, then I will try the yellow line but for now, something new to practice with :)

Ive been fishing in the dark as much as i can this season and it has trained me very well to feel the bites rather than see them.
