Help Troubleshoot My Reel - Video Inside

Featured Replies

Citica 201E

Has been working flawless for years.  I take it apart as I always do once a year to acetone flush and relube. After putting it together, everything was fine. Woke up the next morning and found that the reel makes a clicking noise. Not a grinding one but a clicking one.  I've taken it apart twice and can't seem to find out what the cause is. Everything looks fine.

I have been taking apart my Shimano E reels for a few years now and never have had a problem. They all work better than when I bought them ever since I started maintenance and tuning. I'm not sure what went wrong here especially since it decided to die overnight as I was sleeping.

you could have bent or replaced the the anti reverse pawl incorrectly. It's very easy to do this putting it back on the clutch. It only serves as a backup to the actual AR bearing. Remove it and see if the issue persists. You don't need it in the reel unless you fish saltwater. I remove all mine.

The AR pawl is easy to pull to see if that's the problem. You can leave it out if you want to but adjusting it correctly is easy. Check the level wind to to be sure it's not catching on the end of the worm gear.
