What power and action do you need for 5/16 oz. to 3/8 oz. buzzbait's?

I fish double buzzbaits 3/8oz, and I prefer a m/h and a slower fast action for my buzz baits. I have a wore out carbonlite that really helps me get them hooked up good. And I also use 65lb braid with 20lb mono leader that helps me drive the hook good. I had bad problems with loosing fish on buzzbaits until I started using this setup.

A longer (7ft.+) M/H power with a moderate to fast tip would be my recommendation. I use a 7ft.6in. M/H with a tip that I would rate as moderately fast if there were such a rating.

I don't understand why you use a mono leader. Please enlighten me.

MH F will do the trick. Make sure you've got a trailer hook and a super fast reel. (28+ IPT)

I have two M/H, Moderate Fast that I got just for buzzbaits. Am now trying a M/H Fast. Seen two rod manufactures that was showing their M/H Extra Fast for buzzbaits.

I throw 1/4 and 3/8 on a spinnerbait rod, 6ft 8 medium x fast..

I like to use my St. Croix Avid 7' M-F and my Shimano Crucial 6'10" MH-F for throwing 1/4-3/8oz Cavitrons (or buzzbaits as some folks say).

I like a 7 M' or MH Abu Veritas Winch for buzzbaits. I like a parabolic bend to keep from pulling away from the fish and keeping them pegged. Any good M or MH cranking rod is perfect for buzzbaits. In heavy vegetation use braid.

I throw buzz baits ALOT.... Why do you feel such a super fast reel is needed? I catch most of my fish with the slowest retrieve that keeps the propeller moving...

For me it would be to catch up with them because they hit them alot from behind and swim straight at me.. as for me super fast would be 8:1 or up, i use a 6:4.1 and dont have any trouble catching up with them but to each their own..

I use a 6'8 medium fast action. Some guys like a MH but the medium has worked for me.

I don't  subscribe to the theory braided line is good for crank baits or buzz baits. A  medium power rod and mono with a little stretch will hook hold more fish.

If you don't find a need to use braid for throwing buzz baits then I don't believe your using them to the best of their abilities. I throw mine near some of the heaviest cover on the lake I can find. Lay downs, lilly pads, weed edges, under docks, and so forth. Please explain why you think mono "holds more fish".

I use a 6'9" MH Kistler Carbon Steel rod with 65 lb Power Pro braid for fishing buzzbaits.  I very rarely lose any fish with this setup once they get on.

Lay downs, lilly pads, weed edges, under docks, and so forth. Please explain why you think mono "holds more fish".

Mono may " give"  a little more than braid, but I'm fishing for BIG bass.  I fish my buzzbaits in and around timber, vegetation, and alot of other thick, nasty cover.  The 65 lb braid gives me more than enough to handle a big bass once I get her hooked.

I agree with the braid. Was questioning the other poster as to why he thought mono lost less fish.

I believe crank baits and buzz baits on mono hold more bass because braided line tends to tear at the hook hole whereby the hook can pull out especially on jumps and at the side of the boat.  This is not the case with Pike, Muskie, Redfish and plastic baits. Just as putting braided line on a medium action crankbait rod  seems counter productive. Braided line on 10" power worms ect. and deep brush is potent.

If your hooks are SHARP and just give a slight sweep of the rod when you feel the weight of the fish you should have almost zero problems. Plastics are a bit different depending on the bait itself and how far through the plastic your hook point needs to travel before it's even able to penetrate a fishes mouth. Too many people out there with the home run swings when using a line with ZERO stretch IMO.

You may be right . I spend most of the summer after June fishing deep brush piles on LOZ where the hook set has to get him turned in right direction then out. Leads to bad habits.
