I am looking into getting new rods and they are advertising casting and crank rods seperately. I am not sure what the difference is. I am New to anything nicer than walmart specials.

Generally, crankbait rods will have a more parabolic curve and more "give" so as to not rip the treble hooks out of the fish's mouth. These rods may also be made of fiberglass or a fiberglass composite.

General casting rods will have the curve be higher on the rod.

Alright makes sense. Found a that sells duckett locally. I am a bit confused on what to get. I want to get three rods for now. I fish out of a John boat or from bank. Thinking 7ft med spinning, 7 ft med cranking for treble hooks and 7 ft 3 in mh for jigs etc, how does that sound?

sounds like a solid choice that would cover more or less every situation

Another way to put it is that a cranking rod will usually be moderate action while most casting rods are fast action.

To make it easier on you, think of cranking rods as the rod to use for treble hooks, casting rods are usually fast or extra fast action for single hook baits.

Crankbait rods have slower actions/softer tips so when a fish hits your crankbait you won't rip the bait out, will help keep tension on the line as you fight a fish in, and you'll also get more distance on your casts as it will load better assuming you're using a lure that's correct weight for the rod.  The Phenix Glass crankbait rods are awesome - affordable and a ton of fun to fight a fish on.  Definitely give those a look as you shop around.

I just picked up a ghost myself two weeks ago. Got the 6'8" in medium heavy, would have liked to get the 7' but I fish mostly from shore. I use mine mostly for top water and have loved this rod from the moment I got it. I think I'll buy a couple more as well. How does your 7'3" fish from the bank? Any issues with hitting the ground?
