I am admittedly new to angling, only diving in this year. I recently began trying to fish the Verdigris River north of Tulsa, Ok. Each morning I have gone the fish are so active, chasing the minnows, that I feel like I could reach out and grab them if only I was quick enough. I have tried poppers, inline spinners, and even the old worm in a hook. Nothing.

I thought I would reach out to the vast resources on this forum and see if anyone had any advice as to what else I might toss out there.

Water is murky, and the river is a channel for barges.

Well.. come on.. throw somethin that looks like a minnow out there!

Plenty of small plastic swimbaits the size of minnows at Dicks or Walmart..

If your looking for a topwater maybe a Sammy might be the ticket.  I also like the r2s bubble walker.

Get some 4" black yamamoto senkos and 3/0 ewg hooks.  Learn how to texas rig the senko weightless.  Also try some 3" chartreuse grubs rigged on 1/8oz jigheads.  With the senkos, cast and let it fall.  The grubs you can cast and retrieve or jig.

I fish the Mississippi , the more barge traffic the better the fishing.  My favorite lure is a chartreuse Bomber Flat A .

If they are chasing minnows or other baitfish Walmart has some power bait shad and minnows that are prehooked for about $3. Bass around here love them!

A Jerkbait ripped hard and fast through the area, or a weightless fluke worked hard could be the ticket.

I was raised on the Verdigris further north. Inline spinners such as mepps always did the trick for us.

I've fished there, and flukes(weightless,usually fluke jr) and ultravibe speed craws(texas rigged with 3/16 bullet wt) are the ticket. Stick  to watermelon and Green Pumpkin colors...
