We all have nice fancy PDFs with a lot of pockets. I just ordered a chinook and I'm trying to figure out what I should keep in the pockets while I'm on my yak. Any suggestions? Tell me what yall carry?

For me, I keep as little as possible.  The contents of my PFD pockets are:

 

Right pocket - a pair of SNIPS by Boomerang and my pliers.

Left Pocket - where I put my phone

 

Outside of Right Pocket - NRS River Knife

Outside of Left Pocket - Hobie Safety Whistle

 

Outside Right pocket insert - copy of my fishing license in a Ziploc bag.

Only one little pocket in my (inflatable) PFD - which contains a whistle...

minimal....  whistle, gerber river knife, boat registration card since i have a trolling motor

I have the Chinook as well. In the pockets I have a Leatherman, tube of Megastrike, hook file, camera and keys. I have clippers on the little bungee attachment and a whistle on one of the loops.

Chinook here:

Lower main pockets- my phone in right and lip grips in the left

Small pockets on lower left main pocket- Tailor measuring tape in one, and scale in the other

Pocket on lower right main pocket- SPF gloves

Small top pocket with clip- whistle

Clip on the outside- shears

Loop that holds outside clip- needle nose

Strap attachment point- Kershaw Shuffle EDC

I have the nrs Chinook also.

Bottom right - phone in a zip loc bag.

Bottom left - pliers and a pack of lures I have tied on at the time.

Top right pockets - a plastic grocery bag to pick up trash others leave in or around the water. Copy of fishing license in a zip loc bag.

Top left - car keys cause I don't leave stuff in my pockets.

A Whistle is a Must.

 

And if you are on the water during low light or night time periods, a chemical type light is a solid idea as well.

 

Both need to be tied, clipped or otherwise semi-permanently secured to your life jacket.

 

Clearly none of this means anything if the jacket is not worn  . . . . .

All I keep in mine is my phone.  I only have one pocket on my PFD and i don't like lots of pockets.  That's what i have a kayak for, to hold my stuff, the last thing i want is a bunch of stuff adding weight to my PFD.  I do have good storage in my kayak though which is all easily accessed.

Just floatation. It's a plain kayak PFD. No pockets or anything. And I'll admit, sometimes I still don't wear it. I know, I know, but it doesn't fit my seat. I need to have the floatation removed from the back, but I try to be a good role model for my daughter and wear it when she goes along so she always will.

I have the ascend fishing pfd from basspro.

Left Pocket:  Buff, sungloves, pliers, scissors and line pick and cellphone.

Right Pocket:  keys and camera

Clipped to lash clip:  Rescue knife and whistle.

Whistle and knife at a min.  I tend to add stuff based on what I am fishing that day.  Rig-wraps have become a go to for my drop shot setups.
