Rod building starter kit help

Featured Replies

I saw the mud hole kits. I did not see one that had a split grip. Is there a starter kit that offers split grips? Honestly I do not want a foregrip either. And how can you tell the length of the handles in the kits? I don't want a 9" handle on a 7'2" rod. Do they come with everything I need to complete the rod?Epoxies and other things like that. Sorry about all of the questions I may be asking for too much out of a starter kit. Any info please. Thanks in advance.

Never heard of any kits with a split grip setup, they aren't that advanced.

Try reading the sticky at the top of the forum.

I've seen a number of split grip handle kits but not rod kits.

Search for "Lathe" in this section and you'll see some nearly free ways to set up a cork turning station so you can make your own split grip. Making the grip is a big part of the custom nature of a self made rod. If you use a pre-fab grip and don't spiral it, you might as well buy a rack rod...

With a little extra research on the front end, you'll do much better than ordering a kit. (I still have never seen a kit with all the "right" stuff in it for a rod I'd like)
