Really? They Did That?

Recommended Posts

So tonight I decided to take the kayak out to a local lake.  I was fishing from 6-9:00 pm tonight and so was this couple in a canoe.  The guy was paddling around while the lady was fishing, I am not sure what they were using.  Anyway to the point, I found a spot where lots of activity started happening.  I could see baitfish boiling at the top and bass starting to smash them. I was like d**n I just took off my spook jr.  So I grabbed a KVD 1.0 in sexy shad, said what the heck.  Couple casts in FISH ON!  It was 1.5 lber, when I caught this one the couple noticed the catch.  Two casts later, slam I get a 2 lb 10 oz bass.  This bass inhaled my crankbait!  While I was removing the hooks, they saw this second catch and then the guy started rowing towards where I was fishing to "troll".  I was like really?  Needless to say I was annoyed.  They trolled around for 10 minutes and all they caught were weeds and when they couldn't catch anything they left.  I was left just scratching my head there.  Who knows how many more I could've landed.  :Idontknow: I'm still confused why anyone would "troll" over a spot, instead of stopping to cast.

Because of rude, self-absorbed mentalities..

It's unfortunate but the world is full of these types.

Because they're freaking idiots who know nothing about fishing and don't care about it like we do.

People should keep at least 2 casting distances between boats imo.

I've had even worse happen but I don't even want to get into it.  People are selfish, inconsiderate and ignorant to a point where you have to wonder if it's malicious intent or just Olympic-level extreme ignorance.  I don't even care which, but I have been practicing a look/stare that will drill a hole through their hull- haven't gotten it down pat just yet but I feel like I'm almost there.  I'll let you know when I master it.   :eyebrows:

I am guessing they just don't know any better so education may be in order, as difficult as it is t do when someone spoils your spot but it may prevent them from doing it in the future.

Happens all the time around here. Two weeks ago we had a club tournament on one of the local unlimited HP lakes. There was us and two other boats fishing back in this one small cove off the main lake, just fishing and minding our own business. Out of no where, this guy on a jet ski comes back into this cove, does 3 circles around each one of our boats at only about 25-30 yards away, and then sped off back onto the main lake. Some people just get off on ruining other people's good time.

If you think that's bad, don't go Tuna fishing during a hot bite

Had the same thing happen more than a few times, except when they run over your lines out there it costs as much as $6-700 in lost tackle....

Some people are just rude and have no consideration for anyone but themselves.

I've noticed the majority of fisherman who do stuff like trolling over a spot someone is fishing generally don't know what they are doing and just get excited when they see someone catching a fish so they feel like they need to go that exact spot because it is the only area where fish are. It's sort of like a little kid in a candy shop/toy store.

Sometimes you just have to let it go, most people are just idiots :)

I was bank fishing a local pond this past Saturday.  At the entrance to this pond, there is a corner where you can fish to the left or right, that is just where the walkway dead-ends.

I had arrived well before sunrise and been fishing for around an hour or so all alone, and I had covered the whole section of bank to the left and I was back at the corner.

About that time, another guy arrives coming in down the walkway.  I said hello, and he just ignored me and made a hard left...Basically, he thought I had just gotten there too, it was sunrise and he wanted to get to a certain spot about 50 yards down the bank before I did, even though if that was his thought process, he should have asked me which way I was going since I was there first, and at the least he should have responded to my greeting.

About 10 minutes later, another guy shows up.  By this time I'm working my way down the right bank, and the new guy sets all of his stuff on a bench at the corner and starts working down the bank behind me.  We talk a little, and then he just cuts right in front of me and starts casting a topwater plug and fishing ahead of me.  Keep in mind, I'm throwing a Chatterbait at this point and covering water down the bank, not set up on a spot, the only reason I was even still close to him was because he was talking to me.

I just left, I had to be home anyway but I had planned on spending another 30 minutes or so fishing down that bank until the dumb*ss cut in front of me.

I truly don't think he had any clue how rude that was either, one of those "here's your sign" moments :)

Now the first guy, he was intentionally being VERY rude.  It's OK though, because he was fishing for some sore-lipped fish I'd already caught off of the bank he chose, I'd already fished that section coming and going!

Sorry for the rant.

This kind of thing happens all the time in tournaments around here....

My cousin/partner is not the type to let it go either. He will start casting his lures onto their boat like they were not even there, or pinging a jig off of their outboard. Probably not the best way to handle it but... it's kind of funny at times. They will get angry of course and shout, he never even acknowledges their presence.

I was wading the river last weekend scouting out a drift for this weekend and had essentially the same thing happen to me... 7 times! Seriously, what kind of an ***hole do you have to be to do that?!? Now, I'll be drifting through that same stretch on Sunday and my fingers are crossed that I won't have to deal with it again.

That's why I prefer more remote lakes.

Whenever there are other people, there are problems. Granted, there still may be some idiots at a rural reservoir, but anyone that wants to wake up early, drive that far, is pretty hardcore about fishing, and know the rules.

At town lakes, I was once casting with a Rapala Clackin' Crank, about $15. I was fishing in this hump, caught dink after dink, and was in good spirits. Just then, a family of two adults and four kids came over with their bobber fishing Zebcos and started casting. They didn't pay any attention to where I was fishing. They fished right over my line, and tangled it when I was retrieving.

Guess what they do? They cut their line. It must of tangled on the weeds or something, but I couldn't get it loose and had to throw my crank away. Of course, I get a blasting, even though my rig alone could have bought one of their whole setups. That was the last straw for me.

This is why I fish at 4am. Nothing but the wildlife to worry about.

We're fishing lake zoar near the Stevenson dam in a cove. From shore. All of a sudden this boater comes in so close he cut all 6 of our lines. I think he thought he had a PT boat.

My buddy picks up a rock and hits the guy. Not good.

We're fishing saltwater for blues, strippers and weakfish. The baitfish are boiling on the surface. We're circling the school picking off the weakfish one by one not spooking them. A boater flys into the middle of the school shuts off the boat stands up and casts. The school dives down. He got nothing.

I shore fishing in the evening. I had a bass strike my mister twister propbait on the surface. He missed. The people on both sides of me cast where I'm fishing.

This spot is heavy pressured in the evenings. I switched to fishing it at 4am.

that sucks man in my area it seems to be people keeping absolutely anything they catch really bugs me when i see them doing it too. like a 8" largemouth and they will take it home and cook it. i don't think they understand that they are the reason that the city has put up no fishing signs in certain areas
