Frog Setup

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a frog setup just for fishing frogs. I fish a lot of small hollow body frogs, like Booyah Pad Crasher JR. Those weight about a 1/4oz. I fish a lot of heavy cover weeds in the frog, but occasional fish open water and wood. The bass I catch average about a pound, hence the small frog. This being the case, what rod, reel, and line setup do we need.

7' medium heavy rod: I use a h20 ethos and a Berkley Lightening

7:3 reel: I use a abu garcia orra

50lb Power pro super slick.

This will throw and work the little frogs, as well as the bigger ones.

You will get a ton of opinions. It all comes down to what you are comfortable with. I use a Tatula 6'10" mh fast. Lews TP 7.1.

I use 2 setups for frogging...

Dobyns Savvy 735C.....Daiwa pixy Type R...50lb Braid....This is my sparse cover close in can throw lighter frog setup...

Dobyns CHamp 736c......Daiwa Zillion HLC, 65lb Braid....Long bomb, heavy cover setup..

Use a 7'-7'4" MH or Heavy crank bait rod for 1/4-3/8 oz hollow body frogs. This rod has enough backbone to get the bass out of cover and will cast your frog easily.
