New Texas Rig Setup

Featured Replies

I will be going to BPS on wednesday to get a new reel for my Texas Rig rod and a new rod to go with my silver max reel for jerk baits. I have been doing some online shopping so that I kind of know what I am looking for when I get there. For the jerk bait rod I am thinking of a Quantum Smoke, 6'6 or 6'9 medium power. For the reel I am not sure what to look for. I was thinking a 7.1:1 ratio but most of those are looking out of my price range ($300 for both rod and reel) besides the Pflueger Supreme and the BPS reel.

So I suppose my question is; I'm looking for a reel that has a decent line pick up for texas rigs within the 100-130 price range. Any suggestions?

EDIT: The title is wrong. Should read "New TEXAS RIG setup"

If you havent gotten anything yet i would recommend a shimano citica 200g7. As far as the rod, both of those are great

I use a spinning setup because it's more of a finesse technique for me, and I use a 1/8 oz sinker 90% of the time too.

Lews makes a couple good reels in your price range.

you can get a 7.3:1 tatula for <$100 on amazon. That's what I use and it works great
