Powershot Tactics : What's Your Approach ?

Recommended Posts

For me it begins with a 6'6" MH rod and 6:3:1 baitcast outfit and InvizX #12lb. FC line , 1/4th oz. drop shot weight , #1 VMC Spinshot hook and a 5" Senko type bait rigged about 18" above the weight where I cast out horizontal in less than 15' ft. of water - then drag and shake ... Deadly in the Summer to entice a bite . What's your favorite Powershot set up ?

7'3" MH/F casting rod, 7:1 reel, 30lb power pro braid, 15lb flouro leader. 3/0 VMC power shot hook....assorted baits, my favorite are 6" straight tail worms, beaver style baits, and 5" stick baits. I run the hook about 14" above the weight. I like to use 1/2 oz weight most of the time, I DO NOT use drop shot weights for this, on the bottom of the "tag" or "drop" line I tie a split ring, then a bead, then a tungsten worm sinker with the pointy end up (it pulls out of cover better that way) and then an inch or two above the sinker I have a bobber stop, that way the singer can move a little and clink against the bead. I flip this right into the same weeds I would usually fish a jig or t-rig.

X2 ~  I fish the same exact rig with out the flouro - I use mono.

I think it's interesting & kind of funny too because I never needed to look up how to tie this up, I just rigged it.  And I'm most certain you did the same.

Just goes to prove ~ Fisherman Fish.

Yeah....I been doing this almost going on 10 years now, and been using the sinker like that pretty much from the start, or at least once I figured out that traditional drop shot sinkers with their little wire line thingy, and heavy cover don't mix. I used to run just regular EWG offset superline worm hooks, but those VMC powershot hooks have been a god send.

Yup ~ I even use them with a section of tie-able wire above & below.

And I bet you can probably guess why a guy would have to do that . . .

Here's mine:  http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/advanced-drop-shot.html

Funny, because I never looked at how anyone else did it....until this thread....and we rigged it very similar.  I don't use leaders though, but use a bullet sinker just like y'all.  :)

Nice tactic ! ... By rigging a 5" stick bait wacky style I use a larger size hook and dropshot weight - but it still is a basic drop shot setup (just a litle more stout) . What A-Jay and ww2farmer are doing is THE powershot set up - I'm impressed !

A-Jay & ww2farmer : What size VMC Powershot EWG hooks do you like with your set up - 3/0 , 4/0 or 5/0 ?

I like you using brass sinkers with glass bead and split ring tied to bottom,

I should have used spell check..
