If U Where Building A Casting & Spinning Rod For Yourself???

Featured Replies

For Large & Small Mouth Bass what blank or blanks would you use for each one??? I know there are a ton of variables etc, etc, , your blank of choice for yourself

I answered your question on FB, but I'll add that it depends on the application. I use lots of different brands of blanks as each tends to  have stand out models as well as a dog or two. If you have a specific application in mind we can make more specific suggestions.

I've built many brands of blanks, AT Bushidos and Matrix, several grades and types of Batson and Rainshadow blanks, two types of St. Croix, in different types, Mudhole whites in spin, Loomis, and some old brands that I forget.  But new on the scene is Fuji's Point Blank series, and I have just ordered one.  PB69MXF.  Have to see what they are like.  I think this blank will build a great hard jerkbait casting rod for the Lake St Clair jerking for smallies.  You have to be able to really get the lure to aggressively jerk/twitch.  Timely question.

What I would call the "all around" rod is a 7 ft MH power Fast action rod.  You can throw anything on it.  Probably the most commonly used rod for LM.

Now which blank to buy depends on your budget.

Rainshadow RX6 MB843 $30

MHX MB 843  $55

RodGeeks C470MHF  $99

I have all three and they are all great values in their respective price range.

Please let us know your impressions of the blank when it arrives, and of course some details on how it fishes after its built and put through the paces.

point blank blanks can be found on Mudhole

i was checking out the Point Blank blanks but they say the actions are labeled differently so it's hard to tell what you're gonna get :Idontknow:  there hasn't been much clarification on them in reviews ....

It all depends on price and application!

The new Immortal and Eternity2 blanks are super nice.  The e2s in particular offer a lot of value and cost less than similar 'high end' blanks.

I'm curious about the new point blank blanks as well, but honestly my next builds will probably be E2 and North Fork Composites.  Haven't fished with any of the new NFC stuff and would love to.
