400Te Vs. 400B

Featured Replies

I need some advice from someone who has experience with Shimano reels. What's the main difference between the Shimano Calcutta 400TE and the Shimano Calcutta 400B? Other than the clicker, is there a real difference between the two? Do they both have the same gearing? The same bearings?

The TE's (Total Efficiency), have more bearings, High Effiicency Gearing, they are smoother, they are the better reel and they are the USDM version of the JDM Calcutta Conquest though not as refined as the Conquest.

If you want a 400 for swimbaits, there is a particular video on YouTube by Southern Trout Eaters and the guy loves his CTE400GT.

I'm looking to upgrade my Calcutta 400D. I was just wondering if there were any solid differences between the TE and the B. Also, any benefit of the USDM TE vs. JDM Conq?

HEG is a solid difference and to be honest, I have no intrest in reels that big so I haven't done my research but in the smaller TE's and Conquest's, the Conquest's have more bling and forged parts like the handle and drag star.

Bling isn't that much of a factor, considering it costs me more. japantackle.com has the 400 for $446. But doesn't the Conq come with more bearings than the TE?

It's more about quality of the bearings over the total bearing count
