Daiwa Rod Returns Experiences

Featured Replies

Hey guys I hope that I am asking this in the right place, if not hopefully the mod's will move it. Just today I bought a Daiwa Exceler rod for my wife. It was going to be her first baitcasting set up to determine if she was going to like it or not. Long story short, I put reel and line on the rod flexed the tip with the line and the blank shattered and split along the 1-2nd eyelet. It's not an expensive rod by any means, but never had a rod do that. There must have been something up with the blank because I visually inspected it before I bought it.

The shop owner says all sales are final and I am curious if anyone has any experience with returning rod direct to Daiwa and if it is even worth the hassle for such an inexpensive rod. Your thoughts, experiences and opinions are welcomed.

The shipping one way would get you a new one.

Might want to go in another direction though.

Well, here's mine :)  That shop owner maybe didn't have to refund you but he could have offered to help you get it to Daiwa.  He doesn't want your return business apparently.  I wouldn't set my feet in that building again...ever!

My best friend is the rep for the wholesale distributor that supplies about 90% of their fishing inventory and he told me that the store would be credit for them if he took the rod back in as a return because of damage, that is just a policy the wholesaler has with their stores. I am going to chat with the owner again tomorrow because from what I have learned the store owner doesn't really loose anything on their end. IDK we will have to see how it goes with round two.

be careful with how you "flex the tip with the line" on any fishing rod. Basically, you high sticked the rod by pulling the line back and putting all the stress on the first foot of the rod. I did the same thing not paying attention a few years ago.

Not saying there may not have been an issue with the blank, but anytime a rod breaks there and it wasn't slammed in something, it's normally because of high-sticking. That said, the shop owner could have taken care of you instead of pulling the "all sales are final" card which loosely translates to "Thanks for your money, Bye!"

I am familiar with high sticking rods...I did it with a rod when I was a kid. This rod tip splintered and broke way before it reached that point. I am certainly not perfect and have broken my share of tip in lots of stupid ways, but this was not one of them lol.

On a good note I talked to the owner of the shop and I am going to get a better rod and pay the difference on it. I was glad we reached a good resolution because I like that store and wanted to be able to go back.
