Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

You know, I got to thinking and I don't believe I've ever caught a lake bass with a jerkbait.

In rivers, yes, the work well for me. I let them drift down to cover (usually rocks) and twitch 'em. This usually gets a nice smallmouth, walleye, sauger, or saugeye trying to eat it.

But in lakes... Maybe I just don't use 'em enough in lakes. Most of what I fish is too heavy for anything with trebles.

Is there a question in there or just thinking out loud?

My ponds are like this, I find if I hold rod tip up high I can sometimes keep a lipless  crank or suspending jerk bait out of weeds/soft bottom. Has worked for me but it frustrating how many casts come up with leaves, sticks, weeds even other peoples old lines:)

Simple solution is to use a floating jerkbait when weeds detract from using suspending jerkbaits. Try it works much better & still gets bit.

A little of both, I guess.  I always learn more from discussions than just straight up answers.

I appreciate the suggestions and will try them!
