I have been fishing 1/4oz beetle spins on a 6'6" med action baitcast rod, citca 200g5 reel and 12lb big game line. This setup has been catching lots of fish. I love the rod and reel but kinda wanna change up the line. What should I try next??

The difference between using 12lb test and 6lb or 8lb test is before a bass hits it remember to reset your drag. I play the fish a tad easier too.

It isn't them breaking off. I'm looking more for info on things like the type of line "floating or sinking" color of the line "clear or green" stuff like that.

Test wize I think I wanna end up around 8lb.

I'm not saying your breaking them off but rather to avoid breaking them off. Sometimes we miss the little things like resetting the drag. Or checking it. Clutches can stick. It's good to check the break and run of the church (drag)often so we're sure it's not stuck. The drag has a higher static pressure when it first breaks free than when it's constantly pulling.

I use a 5'6" med spinning rod for my light baits with 6lb test. There is a 5lb test that's offered but I never tried it.

I would go for 15lb. (or lighter) braid.

A beetlespin is a sinking, weighted bait that tends to rise on the retrieve because of the spinning blade. So....do you want it to rise a bit more, or a bit less? Fluoro = less, Mono = more.

 

If you already know what # test you want to "end up" with, why not just use that?

 

Clear or green line?  Now we're really splitting hairs. I can barely get my head around why using one or the other would matter enough to have a strong preference.

I feel I would benefit from the lure running deeper. So I'm thinking Fluorocarbon may be the best bet.

Like I said I "THINK" I wanna end up at 8lb. I'm asking what others advice because I don't know much about choosing lines.

I'm asking about color clear or green because I have a huge roll of 20lb power pro that I could use. I've just had trouble with leaders and light lures and wasn't sure how the green line would effect strikes on such small spinners.

The reason for the change is I'm looking to catch a "LOT MORE" fish lol.
