You are very lucky in that you have a problem that can be SOLVED by throwing money at it.    As a bank fisherman, you'll find out pretty quickly that a net is just one more thing to carry, and will you need it often enough to justify carrying it around all the time?   I don't know, my  guess is probably not.   For roughly the same amount of money as a good long handled net, you can get a pair of hip waders, which will get you out into the water enough to lip anything you need to.

Same thing happened to me but with bowfin, i got so mad i went down the street asking every person if they had anything i could do for money, within 3 hours i had 20 bucks and i spent it on a nice 17 dollar net. . . and then it was stolen a month later.

IMHO, a net would be too much to carry from the bank. My landing technique is: fight the fish in to the bank, pin the bass's head to the bank, and grab the lip. Haven't lost a big one at the bank yet.

Bank fishing = take your time when you get them next to the bank.  Once you get the technique that works for you there won't be any issues.  Yes you may loose a fish every now and then if the hook comes out.  I simply play and walk the fish till I can bring it to me with my hands on the line and not the rod. Be patient and you'll land more then you will loose.

I have a folding net from Academy that I keep in the boat that would probably work very well for you. I think it's designed to be a kayak net but I liked that it wouldn't take up much room in my boat. It folds down and is telescoping so you'd have extra reach from the bank. I think it was around $20.
