Gliss Line

Featured Replies

Anyone see this new Gliss line? It's new and i'm curious, looks good.

Sounds like it's just clear braid.

Gliss has been available for months.. It's fine on spinning reels which I never use, I didn't like it at all on casting reels.

I used the 18 lbs. test on a spinning reel for two months. Here's my analysis:

1. Increased casting distance is obvious. 10+ yards compared to Sufix 832 or mono.

2. Line is sensitive, just like a braid.

However, the line has one fatal flaw: abrasion resistance. If you accidentally rub the line over a rock, cast your line over a tree branch, try to bring it through heavy cover, look at it the wrong way, etc, the line frays BAD. It looks like the fibers are breaking apart, and if you don't see it and retie, you'll lose your next fish.

Basically, the line would be best suited for waters devoid of structure where extra casting distance is essential. However, if you are planning on using it near anything that could rub against the line, be sure to use a mono/fluoro leader, and to check your line every time you bring a fish in or hit some structure.

Even with a leader this line will abrade above the leader...

This has been my experience as well and my only complaint about Gliss.  I'm using 24# on a spinning reel and always tie a 3-foot 8# fluoro leader on.  The line has been fraying way above the leader, just from running through the rod guides.  But I haven't broken off a fish (yet) and the fraying may not be a deal breaker for me.

So far it hasn't frayed as bad as Nanofil does and I really like the extra casting distance I get with Gliss over the 10# Sufix 832 I was using before.  So for now I'm going to keep using it.
