Shimano Metanium Set Up Questions

Featured Replies

Hello all, just brought a metanium and I have a few questions about set up, the instructions are all in Japanese haha

I will be using the reel to cast quarter oz spinnerbaits and jigs

Currently it is spooled with 30lb braid

My main question is regarding the braking system, there are white brakes installed, there are red ones in the box. What is the difference between white and red?

How many should I have "locked" down, currently they are all locked down, does this mean that they are all active/on? What is the recommended setting for all around casting?

Thanks in advance!

If anyone knows a place where there is good instructions or a set up guide, I'd appreciate it.

I am not sure which is which but either the white or red will provide more or less braking than the other and if it were my reel and I were going to make my first cast, I would have two on and two off and my cast control maybe a little tighter than I normally cast. When the brakes are locked down, meaning no movement, all brakes are off.

White ones are lighter than the red ones. You can leave 3 on and 3 off in a balanced fashion for general casting.

The whites provide less braking friction and longer casts. I would go with the factory set up of 2 on and 1 on the dial. Then adjust the dial as needed.

Thanks for the tips guys! Just dialed it in, Holy Cow this thing unspools that line like crazy! The casting distance is remarkable, I thought my Tatula was about as good as it was going to get, this thing smokes it!

Thanks again!
