Question For Dvt Or Any Reel Expert

Featured Replies

Hello DVT, are clutch bar plates supposed to be fixed to the reel?  I have a Cabelas reel where the left plate is very loose and causing problems when engaging the reel.  I super glued it down months ago, but it's back loose again. Also, would a drop oil on this plate be beneficial once its secured?

Thanks,

Chris

Assuming you're referring to the plastic pieces on each side of the thumb bar. They should stay in place but are not permanently fixed to the reel. Yes, some oil would reduce friction.

Photo would be helpful.  i'm not really sure what you are talkng about.

If it's the part rippin/lips referred to he is correct. Those are sometimes called a slide washer and can be a problem on certain models. A dab of grease between the washer and frame can help hold them in place and oiling the contact between washer and thumb bar is appropriate.

Thanks for the info. Its a cheap Cabelas ZX reel, but I think I saved it.
