Hey guys so the other day I asked about what size reel you use for shakey heads and spy baits. Right now I have a Shimano Sahara 1000. My issue with it is that it is uncomfortable because the stem of the reel is short and the reel is close to my knuckles. It is hard to explain but basically my pinky knuckle that goes under the stem in the bend of it is what part is uncomfortable. I am looking at moving to a 2500 sized reel. I have always used Shimano, and have nothing against them, but I wouldn't mind trying something different.

 

I am looking to spend $100 or less, but will spend a bit more around $120 if there is something that is head and shoulders better than the other ones in that price range. I do have a Daiwa Revros that I like, I bought for a knock around reel fishing saltwater. Outside of that though I know nothing about Daiwa spinning reels. What would you recommend? thanks!

Pflueger President spinning reel.  Best bang for your bucks. Buy it for $60 & use the rest of your budget for new lures.

Pflueger supreme size 30 or find a deal on a clearance stradic fj 2500.

I'm not a fan of the new sahara and symetre 2500's for many reasons but one of them is because they are close to my knuckles like you described. Not sure why shimano decided to start making spinning reels for people with tiny hands.

+1 for pflueger president. Great reel for a great price: very smooth, no problems with casting, and drag is nice

Since you want to move from Shimano, have a 

look at Daiwa's Lexa 2000SH. Very nice reel you

can find at or below your price range. I have one

and it is a solid reel for fresh/salt.

 

It is closer in size to the Shimano 2500 sizing.

 

Highly recommended.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I know a lot of people love Pflueger, but I have not really liked the ones I have felt. Granted, I have only ever got to handle a limited number of them, but I have not been to impressed with any of them.

reels. I went in to a BPS all set to buy one

but ended up leaving with a Stradic 1000FI.

 

No doubt Pfluegers are fine reels, but it has

to feel good in my hands, and when I crank

the handle, etc.

 

Quantums reels were very cool, but didn't

have that "it" factor like the Shimanos did

for me.

 

I bought my Lexa 2000SH having never 

touched one - dangerous - but I was very

pleased with it. Has a good fit for my hands.

But now that I've bought some Stradic FJ

reels, everything else I have has taken a back

seat. The FJ's are amazing.

For that price I would pick up a 2500 Shimano stradic FJ. Hands down.

Do you know anything about the newer Daiwa Fuego? I was looking at the different Daiwa reels, and the Fuego is .7oz lighter than the Lexa, it is newer, and cheaper. It also looks like they both have a lot of the same features. I like both, I just can not really figure out the main differences between them.

My absolute favorite spinning reel is Lews tournament speed spin $80. I own 6 of them.

just checked on Daiwa's site you're correct, and

the only thing (personally) that I would change 

on the Fuego is the EVA grip. I like the paddle

grip better, but again, a personal preference.

I fish almost all Shimano for spinning reels.  The 2500 size Sedona is on sale at Cabela's for $45 right now, which is a great deal.

Hey guys so the reel finally came in the mail yesterday. I have not gotten to finish building the rod that it is going on yet. From just playing with it without a rod though so far I love it. It needed a little oil and grease when I first opened the box, but now it feels amazing. It feels much better than the Sahara I have, I cant compare it to other Shimano reels as the Sahara is the most expensive one I have used. We will see how it performs on the water, but if it works as good as it feels then I will likely order another when I need one.
