Uses for this casting rig

Featured Replies

I have a 6'6 m/f casting rod with a 7:1 reel on it what techniques would this setup be best for and what kind of line should I put on it?

Would this combo be too light for spinnerbaits?

Jerkbaits, poppers, walking baits.  Senkos.

Smaller spinnerbaits.

Medium means different things to different brands. Check the lure weight range and do some testing  to get s feel for yourself what casts well. You can then successfully present a range of spinners , jigs, plastics and some top waters.

Sounds like a setup for some 12# fluoro or mono imo.  You won't be flippin 3/4oz jigs or frog fishing with that setup.

i would say spinnerbaits up to like 3/8oz or so shouldn't be an issue, but like DVT said there is no standard to go by so you'll just have to try and see if it works for you.

The rod says it is rated for lures 1/4 to 3/4 oz

I feel most comfortable with 6 or 8lb on a spinning rig.

Flouro

Braid I like 10lb

Square bills, jerkbaits, topwater, spinnerbaits under3/8

I throw this same setup for my stuff.  Senkos, square bills to 1/2oz, light t-rigs, swim jigs to 3/8oz

Typically I would say this rod is best for top water and jerkbaits. You could use the rod for spinner baits, but I wouldn't recommend throwing one any heavier than 3/8 oz

Brand model number of rod & reel?

Tom

Poppers, jerkbaits, weightless plastics like flukes. Up to 3/8 oz spinnerbaits would work.

12-14 lb line mono or 30lb braid with or without leader. Your choice.
