Darn, and we were thinking of fishing the hot side of One Fish Anna this Saturday. Oh well, staying home and reorganizing my tackle once more and watching football. At least I have a good excuse to miss church!!!!

FROM WXRISK.COM ON MONDAY, JANUARY 18, 2016:

*** ALERT !! ** ALERT !!** ALL MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW MAJOR (possibly Historic ) SNOWSTORM FOR JAN 22-23 for MOST of VA & MD eastern half of WVA central/ eastern PA all of NJ NYC southern NY and southern half of New England

0z Monday ( early Mon am) EUROPEAN COMES IN COLDER ALL SNOW FOR RIC ... shows 22" for RIC !! .... 26" for DCA ...20 "for CHO
..16 -18" for ROA LYH 30" over BAL ...12" lower MD eastern shore 6-...10" for Hampton Roads SEE IMAGE #1

What we are looking at .... according to the European model is a historic snowstorm. The European model continues to show run after run almost the exact same scenario. This is the model which correctly forecasted hurricane Joaquin to NOT hit the East Coast ...which correctly forecasted SANDY to hit Atlantic City 8 days before made landfall. I could go on and on about the European model's superior performance when it comes to East Coast winter storms and hurricanes. Unlike the other weather models... the European model and it's ensemble continues to show the same scenario for the past 7 model runs. As we get closer to the event this model's consistency continues to be extremely impressive.

IMAGE #2 is the ACTUAL snow map from a huge snowstorm for FEB 1983 Also a strong el Nineo winter

Sigh....

:others-153:

Hell, we got 7 feet of snow in one week here in Buffalo..

  • Super User

Hate snow period but over 20 inches in this area really is no fun at all.

This storm is getting larger by his latest post...some parts of Western Virginia and Eastern West Virginia are showing as getting over 40 inches. As always its subject to change but something to keep an eye on.

40"? Could get worse as it heads north picking up moisture. No problem I need to prep the jeep, sharpen the plow.lol

my local news says big northeaster possible then 6"???

sounds like 40" I hope so shut the back door and the state down too.

Another report discusses the models as well,
talks about the track and impact changes for
our areas, similar to Wxrisk...

DOES NOT LOOK GOOD FOR THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC THIS FRIDAY. I PLAN TO STAY HOME AND WATCH FOOTBALL AND REORGANIZE MY TACKLE. I HATE SNOW.

*** ALERT *** the EARLY TUESDAY AM EUROPEAN MODELS HOLDS COURSE and HAMMERS all of CENTRAL WEST NORTHERN VA WITH HUGE SNOWS JAN 22-23 ...HIGH WINDS ....

The early Tuesday morning European model has held course and is almost identical to the for last 10 runs of the European model. It is substantially colder then the early Tuesday morning GFS model. And of course it has a massive amounts of snow SEE image #1

Even more significant is ...the fact that the early Tuesday morning Canadian model has also come in significantly colder --- in fact the Canadian model over the past three days has been the warmest model of the three. SEE IMAGE #2 Therefore at this time ONLY the regular or operational GFS model on Tuesday morning has rain in Central Virginia and over the Delmarva and the snow mixing with rain into Washington, DC and Baltimore.

In other words the European and the Canadian models have just told the G FS model in essence to " go blow it out your ass "

The problem is that many of the TV stations weather personalities and meteorologists in Virginia North Carolina and Maryland see the GFS model before they go on the air at 11:00 PM and since the GFS model was much warmer than any other model ... a lot of the TV stations talked about reduced snow amounts because of mixing with rain over Northern Virginia Washington, DC and Baltimore. And in Central Virginia many the TV stations preceded to parrot the evening update from NWS in WAKEFIELD which as I stated and previous post is an exceptionally poor forecast.

Even the Tuesday morning GFS ensemble is a lot colder and has a lot more snow over central VA into the lower MD eastern shore
