What length fluoro leader do you guys use when pitching and flipping from braid? I have 50lb braid and will be going to 17lb invizx in clear water. Also, what's your favorite knot going from braid to fluoro? 

I use the uni, thats all I know. I need to try a different knot some day..

I need to switch and learn a new knot because the uni to uni is bulky and not as strong as other knots of braid to leader type. I make my leader about as long as two rod lengths so if I hold the line at the reels "mouth" the knot is right at the "mouth" of the reel. I dont flip and pitch but I would make the leader a bit smaller since your not casting far.

I have been using the double uni knot.

i have learned the modified Albright....very low profile knot.

Any one have success using straight braid? No leader.

Plenty of success fishing straight braid.

I don't see why not.  We all have our preferences, but I got tired of the knot banging the guides.  It was more of a hassle for me so I throw straight braid.  

I fish pretty dirty or stained water in Iowa. But, looking to hit some very clear water this summer so need to add a leader. Just curious if it can be 1 foot or 3 feet or what. 

I use an Albright.  For flipping and pitching I make the length just short enough so that the knot doesn't reach the tip guide when I'm holding the bait for the flip.  In other words, only braid in the guides.

I've never had an Albright fail on a fish or a fish in a snag but it is the weak link.  If I get solidly snagged and pull to failure, the Albright fails - not  the Trilene I use at the hook.  That is if the braid doesn't slice a finger off.

the FG knot is the way to go! It takes some practice to get it tied, but once you get the hang of it you will never want anything else for going Braid to Mono/Fluro. It is hands down the slimmest knot you can tie. It pretty much amounts to a Chinese finger-trap holding the two lines together. The harder you pull the tighter the knot gets. 

 

 

I use straight braid. 

Alberto knot. I only use a leader maybe 40% of the time though. Only when the water is pretty clear and the bass tell me they dont like the braid, sometimes the water can be super clear and it doesnt make a difference.

Never had a problem with not using a leader. I mostly prefer not using a leader to be honest with you.

I don't like using braid but I will for frogs and heavy vegetation. A knot and a leader is just another spot for something to go wrong. With all the pressure that goes into a hookset and getting a bass away from whatever he is in while pitching/flipping I just don't have much faith in it. 

There are times I use leaders and times where I don't use leaders.

I pitch straight fluoro, 16-20 lb, unless I'm fishing heavy vegetation.  In that case, I go straight braid with no leader.

@Basspro3106 I've had plenty of luck going straight braid even in clear water. When you're pitching or flipping it's more of a reaction presentation. You're basically dropping the bait on their head. In grass where I tend to work the bait a little longer the braid blends in, and if I'm fishing a dock or shallow wood the bait is dropping straight down on them, gets a few hops, and is then reeled in to go out to the next target. I don't think the fish really gets a very good look at the line. I've had success in water with 10-15' visibility with straight 50 lb braid.

Ditto...I always thought I was the only one on here who doesn't use a leader.

I use straight braid never liked dealing with all the extra leader materials and knots and hate the banging guides.
