I have seen some great looking crank baits from you guys and some really good looking jigs......I have not seen many hair jigs.  I don't know if not many people use them anymore or they are too boring to make..........but here are a few that I have made, and wanted to know what ya'll think.  If anyone else is making hair jigs I'd love to see them....

I make some for myself from time to time. Just the old conventional banana head jig thought. Nothing NEAR as fancy as those. Really good looking jigs. Can tell you spend a lot of time with it.

I just started tying them last year for winter SM. Most of the baits I find on the market are not what I want so like most of my baits I will make them myself. Let me see if I can find my most recent ones and I will post a pic (they are not as good as yours).

Where do you get your supplies from? I am looking for some grey hair like the second jig and cannot find it.

I buy all of my supplies from Barlow's.....unless I get in a bind and need something simple and quick like thread or flash then I'll go to BassPro......but their tying stuff is really geared toward the fly tyer.  The biggest problem is finding good quality jigs (in bulk) up to 1oz without a lead collar.

Hope you can find some of your jigs to post......I'd love to see them.  I am tying most of these for fishing at Pickwick and so most of them have been 1/2 oz or more.  I plan on tying some this winter on 1/4 oz shakey heads to try in the early sping.

I found 1 laying downstairs on the table I can take a pic of. The hair jigs I use are really small compared to what most people use.

Bone-HeadJig, those look really nice. The last 4, are the bodies made from deer hair?

I tie jigs as well, but not a 100% hair jig. I tend to make a hybrid where I would uses a silicone skirt as you would with a traditional bass jig, but I would either use deer hair for the body trimmed really short like those last 4 or a chenille body with twin rabbit fur tails.

Thanks,  and yes they are deer hair with the exception of the rabbit zonker strips for the tails.  I have to put the tails on all these so that I have something to push against.

The technique is called spinning deer hair......you can look it up on YouTube and see some pretty good instructional videos on how to do it.  It is a technique used by fly tyers when making their popping bugs.

The reason I tried this was to make a 1/2 oz jig fall at the rate of a 1/4 oz jig.  This allows me to use a 1/2 oz or heavier jig in late winter and early spring when looking for those big females.  That way I don't have to use 1/4 oz jigs, spinning gear, and light line.

So what you're telling me is that you're a fly tier as well? I've made a lot of muddler minnows in my fly fishing days! Sounds like we have something in common!

I agree about the body style, the spun deer hair really restricts the rate of fall. Great ideas you have going on there!

No, I'm no fly tyer.......those hooks are way too small for me to see.  I do have a couple of friends that are big fly tyers and have taught me a thing or two.

I actually purchased my fly tying stuff about 15  years ago so I could make sauger jigs.........then life got in the way.....coaching competitive baseball for 12 years.  So I have just started tying again in the past year and decided to tie hair jigs for smallies.

I like the adding in of the plastic skirt......I have not tried that.  I have put a couple of strands of plastic skirt on some swim jigs but not like that......looks good....

What size jig head are those on?
