Flash Mob Jr Rod suggestions

Featured Replies

I'm looking at getting a rod to throw the Flash Mob Jr.  I know this is lighter than a typical umbrella rig but would appreciate some suggestions on which rods to look at under $100.  I was possibly looking at the Bass Pro Bionic Blade 7'6 Heavy (Lure Weight 1oz - 4oz fast action) being that its on sale for $49.99 currently.  Would this rod work or should i be looking at something with a little less power?

Thanks

That rod would work. Or a Ugly Stik, you don't need a high end rod for A-rigs ,it is a reaction bait. Some fish flippin sticks. I have a 7'6" H action with a fast tip and I do fine with that. That rod would work for me!

Sounds like that rod might be perfect. I'm not sure I'd go much lighter. A Flash Mob Jr with 3 1/8-oz heads and 2 teasers, rigged with 3 Keitech 3.8s and 2 smaller Keitech teasers weighs 1.75 ounces. I throw it on an XH 7'4" rod rated to 1.5 ounces and I can tell I'm pushing the upper limits of the rod on the cast when it loads up. If your state allows a full 5 hook rig, or you use heavier heads, you could easily push up toward the 3 ounce mark.

Wow, I didn't realize the flash mob jr weighed that much.  I guess after the 5 jig heads and plastics it adds up.

I have thrown this on 3 different rods, all with 1/8oz heads and dummies with 3-4" swing impacts.  First rod I used, 2012 Bionic Blade 7'6"MH.  Worked great, but found the hooks I liked (kietech round jig heads) would pull because of too much stiffness in the rod.  So I decided to buy a  2013 7'6" BPS Crankin Stick MH.  This rod was the bomb.  I could cast the baits and the rod loaded great, no pulled hooks.  Then decided I'd try a 7'9" 13 Green OM. which I still use for this as well as using the Crankin Stick.  So I wouldn't worry too much with what you're looking at.  The Bionic Blade worked great, but like I said the light wire hooks I like which are strong but if needed I can pull and straighten if hung up would just pull too easy.  It was a great rod to fish the rig on the yo-yo retrieve off the bottom and would have plenty of power to hit the fish when they smacked the rig on the fall.

I doesn't have to be heavy. Try this: Outside arms, LFT Live Magic Shad rigged on Gamakatsu 3?0 EWR Offset Worm Hooks, no weight.

Inside Arm, Johnson Silver Minnow.

Whatever rod you are currently using for jigs or weighted soft plastics will work just fine.
