Help me decide

Featured Replies

I have a Loomis IMX 954C FPR flippin/punchin stick (65lb PP) and a Loomis GL2 854C (50lb PP) for pitchin, Swimjigs, C-Rigs, etc.

Which reel for each?  I have a Tatula Type R (8.1:1) and a Chornarch Ci4 (7.6:1)

I'm thinking the Tat on the flippin stick...

Thoughts???

Such a slight difference in gear ratio but what you are proposing makes sense.

Both are very high gear ratio and it shouldn’t matter much for flipping.

I prefer a 6:4:1 ratio if you plan to use SwimJigs or even SpinnerBaits. I found burning swimjigs are less effective than fishing them through pads or wood cover. Therefore, high gear ratio is not necessary for me. You can definitely use a high gear ratio, but slow down your retrieve (I intend to crank pretty fast).

type r is about 36 IPT and ci4 is 32 IPT if you want to take that into consideration.  i prefer the way the ci4 palms so i'd probably use it for whichever rod would see the most use.

I'd put the tat on your Flippin' stick.  The tatula weighs 1.6 ounces more than the ci4+, and that extra weight will help balance out that 954.
