Union lake

Featured Replies

I am assuming the water temp for this lake is still in the upper 30s to low 40s. If so, I would hit the west shoreline where the lines on the topo is close together. During temps like this, bass like to be able to move high and low in the water column around structure without having to swim very far. I'm thinking try to fish the steep banks on the west shore of the lake. Work it slow. Maybe a shaky head, jig, or a lipless crank fished really slowly barely staying off the bottom. If you see any bluffs or rip rap along this area go for it. Fish like to stay suspended as opposed to laying on a flat or on the bottom. This is just my 2 cents, others may be able to give you better advice. Good luck.

I live 5 Minutes from Union Lake. Let me know what type of fishing you do. Like Deep Water or Shallow

I am more comfortable fishing spinnerbaits and jigs shallow rather than deep

Go find some Structure in about 10-15 feet of Water. Throw some Cranks and Lipless Cranks. If that doesn't work.. Try a Footbal Jig in the same depth of Water. As the Day warms up a bit. Go shallower and throw Shakey Heads, Cranks, lipless and Spinners. Winter Fishing is very tough. It's like going to AC sometimes and putting 50 on Black or Red.

I have a club tourney there in three weeks.  Smoked it last year with the almighty HJ -10.  Location is critical in this lake.  The biggest females will not be far from the spawning grounds. Fish wood and grass near these areas.  Good luck and report back.  I will be on Rainbow tomorrow.??

Took me a while but I finally nailed a solid 2 and 3lb bass on a Rapala HJ-10 at Rainbow this morning.  Water temps at 40 with howling winds.

Congrats! Early cold water bass aren't easy to catch. It's sloooow going.

I would fish the triangle for 'big fish, and the circle for 'any fish.

And I'd take a crappie rod to avoid smelling like skunk at all costs:eyebrows:
