Cedar Creek Lake, Kentucky Pre Spawn

Featured Replies

I searched and didn't find a whole lot of information about Cedar Creek Lake in Lincoln County, Kentucky. Maybe some of you Kentucky anglers can help me out. I'm driving down from Indiana for 3 days (March 23, 24, 25) and fishing from kayak. Does anyone have any good information/advice on this lake? I would really appreciate it!

Hey, I posted a couple of pics in the fishing report post just today. You are welcome to check my previous post out, as Cedar Creek is my primary lake. Right now things are very different on Cedar because of a major lake draw down in hopes of killing out some grass. Around the time you are planning to come the lake should be filling back up. Right now all of the places where I caught my spawning and prespawning bass are out of water. It has forced me to learn some new locations. I would be happy to share what I know.

Send me a message and I can try to answer any specific questions you have and maybe I can point you in the right direction.

I know this is an old thread but I may be heading to cedar this weekend and was wondering if anyone had any tips.

Lot of standing timber.  There are also some road beds.  I plan on heading down this spring too.  Haven't fished it since I got a kayak and got back into bass fishing, so it's been a while.

I live just over two hours away in Catlettsburg, Ky and plan to be visiting this lake soon.

Last year I went during the draw-down in March. All of the spawning habitat was several feet above water on dry ground. We had horrible weather the second day & decided to head out early. This year the KDFWR said they are not doing a draw-down, so hopefully that will help. I am going mid-April as well as the first weekend in May.

I went last weekend and the lake seemed to be at what I would call summer pool. I couldn't tell they dropped it any

It was crazy windy, I caught 2 bass and a big ole crappie lol. I'm going to try and go back this weekend

When does the pre-spawn usually heat up around there? I'm going the weekend of April 14-15-16, then again May 5-6-7. Any advice for me? Im fishing from a kayak if that makes a difference

This year I couldn't tell ya. I found 55 degree water last week and that's crazy for February. If the water keeps warming I wouldn't be surprised if they were on beds by the end of this month

Well crap, by mid April I may completely miss the pre-spawn.

Even though the lake will not be drawn down...it seems that I am not catching the same fish that I previously have over the years. Yesterday I caught two four pound fish and today a five. Maybe things will pick up, but with the snow forecast and the cold temps this weekend it will likely turn things back off for a spell. Prime fishing for the spawn will be towards the end of march and early april. The end of April will be the tail end of the spawn. My experience on Cedar has been that the bigger fish fish will be caught early.

Fishing from a kayak, should I skip the early may trip? Will they all be deep on the main lake by then?

There will be some fish that are shallow and it seems Cedar has fish shallow most of the year. The largest of the females will be long spawned out by May IMHO. Early May will have good fishing, but the big girls will have already spawned.

I've had some very good luck on Cedar in may and June catching post spawners on top water and by pitching to the standing timber that is literally all over the lake.

some friends of mine just pulled out a couple of hogs a couple of weeks ago. my cousin also fishes it ,says its pretty good. best of luck enjoy your trip.

Anybody been out lately? I'm probably going to hit it Sunday. How crowded is cedar on the weekend

Ive heard there are weekends with 200+ boats. I was planning on heading down this coming Thursday-Sunday but the weather isn't looking so great.

It's only 600 acres so I couldn't imagine that many boats. It was crowded last weekend. I was lucky enough to fish it once during the week, me and 4 other boats shared the whole lake
