Cork cleaning?

Featured Replies

Greetings all!

As the title implies, what do you guys use to clean the cork on Rods? I'm not looking to seal them or anything, just wanting to knock some dirt off.

Mr Clean, Magic Eraser. Makes them look like new.

If the cork handles are oily from attractants, fish slime whatever wash them in worm water using Simple Green soap. Wipe dry then use Magic Eraser to keep them looking new.

Awesome. Thank you guys!

After you get them clean, seal them with U-40 to keep them looking good.

Where can I find this u40?

All you need is a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol.  If you don't believe it, test it on your buddy's rod...... :0

TW has the u-40.

I used steel wool once. I had some very small pieces of steel stuck in the cork, which rusted over the winter. Haven't used steel wool since. Simple Greem works, DNA works, and the Magic Eraser works.  None  of which  will  leave behind  anything  that will rust.

Trondak U40 is a fine product. I also like Tru Oil. I use that on all the grips I build, particularly any grips with burl cork.
