Ok so the aldebaran doesn't hold much line but is a good amount lighter than the mentanium. Since I want it for a dedicated pitching rod I'm not worried about line capacity. But is the drag strong enough on these reels? And when u put a carbontex drag on them does the amount of drag change or it just makes it smoother? Thanks guys.

I'd go with a metanium, with a big flippin stick a 1/2oz or so won't even be noticeable. I think aldebaran reels are based more on light line finesse fishing

A dry Carbontex drag is a little stronger and plenty smooth but a light coat of Cals makes them super smooth. I run them dry except on light line setups. Either reel will work but whatever advantages the aldebaran offers are negated in that application.

U mean as far as the drag change only? Wanted the Aldebaran because it's lighter and the small line capacity didn't matter since it would only be used for pitching. I can't find specs on both reels for the amount of drag, but if the Aldebaran has enough drag for pitching then that's the reel I want.

Since I only own the 2015 50 HG and a BFS HG LTD the drag pounds are 9.9 for the HG and 7.7 for the BFS......So if you are worried about drag go with the non BFS ....I use Conquest 50 and 50DC for pitching and have no problems and they are rated 7.8 (50) and 7 (50DC) ......

7# of drag is plenty for a bass reel.

Sorry I meant the ability to throw light baits and the slightly lighter reel. I think the Carbontex is a good affordable upgrade for any reel.
