Shimano Citica 200g

Featured Replies

So I found a good deal on a couple NIB Citica 200g's and took advantage. I've never done any kind of upgrading to my reels but I believe I can put ceramic bearings in them and carbon drag washers and essentially make them comparable to chronarchs. Tell me if I'm wrong or if you have done any similar upgrades to yours.

The citica is a fine reel but nothing you do it will make it a chronarch equivalent. Not discouraging you from maximizing the reel just to have reasonable expectations. Carbontex Drag absolutely. Replace the bushing under the drive shaft with a bearing, flush and lightly oil the stock bearings. If you want more out of it have it Super Tuned. Upgrade bearings after that if you still want to.

Unless it's an e series citica, then it could very easily be made into a e series chronarch.

The citica in question is a G and compared to a current chronarch. At least that's how I took it. Plus the E Chronarch was a renamed curado E. It's more cost effective to buy the model you want than to "make one" from a lesser model

Not necessarily. I have 6 citica E's that I bought used and upgraded the bearings, drag, and handle plus added a bearing under the main shaft for less than the cost of a chronarch e or curado e.

You may not get to a Chronarch, but you can make it fairly close to a Curado G by replacing the drive shaft pushing, upgrading the handle knobs and handle bearings.

BTW, there's a lot of Citica/Curado G haters out there - don't listen to them. They're actually pretty good work horse reels that hold their own well on the water.
