help identifying Florida freshwater fish

Featured Replies

I caught this guy in a 3 or 4 acre lake in cocoa beach area. Was fishing for bass. His mouth looked like a carp to me. I would say he was 16 inches. What kind of fish is it?

Would not have guessed that but fits. Thanks guys! Also, was definitely 16 inches, but think what you want ;)

What did you catch it on?

Blue Tilapia I believe. I've caught a few at a local lake that use to stock them.

Thanks guys. Caught several more bass but no more of those guys. See a lot on beds though.

Those guys are all over in my area. Always see them but never caught one so I usually ignore them.

Tilapia for sure.

I was at a lake near my work the otherday and couldnt beleive what i saw....an asian couple with there 2 daughters they they released their pet tilapia in the lake! I was about to say something to them about that being illegal but i didnt. After they walked away i tried to snag it/wap it with my rod.

Should've called DNR, next time they'll be at one of the local reservoirs tossing in snakeheads.
