sunscreen and depth finders dont mix.

Featured Replies

Ok guys and girls. I have tried almost everything and I need some outside advice. During my tournament saturday the sun got high and I needed some sunscreen, I had some spray on sunscreen in the storage compartment so I sprayed some on. Long story short my lowrance hds 12 touch looks like a splatterback crankbait now. Any advice on how to get this stuff off?

Too late, do not use spray anything in or around your boat.

You can fix the white spots on the plastic case by rubbing it with WD-40 on a cloth.

Contact lowrance for help, they'll have a list of what you can safely use on your screen. A damp soft cotton cloth (glass cleaning cloth) would be okay, if that doesn't work you need to talk to lowrance.

Wayne is right, no spray items in the boat! If you have to use that type of sunscreen, get down low and spray it into your hand then wipe it on. Same with bug spray!

In a SMALL corner area of the display, use a soft tissue with some of the sun screen on it and clean in a SMALL circular motion. This has worked for me on several occasions with different stains. If it works in the corner, you can clean the whole screen.

They do make touch screen safe spray cleaners that we used to use in my old job.  Might be able to find some on amazon that would be worth trying.

Be especially cautious as, if I recollect properly, the HDS 12 is a touch screen.  It could go from "unsightly" to "non-functioning."

yeah, bug spray with DEET is another terrible idea for the boat/kayak/fishfinder....  found that out a few years back.

Never thought about this, thanks for the warning !!!

It's on the back of the unit not the screen. Thanks for all the help everybody, rookie mistake on my part. but we live and we learn. Good fishing and God bless!
