What do you do in the off-season?
Fish, clean reels, order the new rig for the next season and spend some time with the family. I also have a few secret books I like to study on when I get some off time.

Tough fishing
I fish wherever the fish are, wether they are tough to catch or easy to catch. I am shooting for a paycheck or trying to figure out a place to fish to win a paycheck when I'm on the water. If there are fish in a spot and I feel that they have enough weight to bring home some cabbage I will fish for them, But I'm not going to be stubborn and take a beating on the water just because I want to catch fish that are being hard headed and not biting that day. Like this post, Check out my page and throw me a follow. Your support is greatly appreciated. Good Fishing and God Bless.

Power, Finesse, or Both?
Both of course, Versatility is a key part of bass fishing. If I could power fish all the time I definitely would and at my home lake thats pretty much what you have to do on most days. But there are days when you have to downsize and slow that bait down a lot or you will come to the stage with a big goose egg. I try not to pick a favorite lure or technique just for the fact that I don't want to lean toward a specific technique or bait when the fish are wanting something different.

Bps Buys Ranger, Triton And Stratos Boat Companies
To the quality of Nitro? What Nitros have you been running? The 4 I've owned have held up extremely well. As far as the service goes I've never had to wait on parts or for tracker to accept a claim when something does happen. And you don't have to take your motor to BPS to get it worked on. But if you do the service will be great. But keep in mind that they work on a lot of boats.

Flipping/Pitching
- Flipping/Pitching
???? that's priceless.- Flipping/Pitching
I understand that! But you would also be surprised at how many nicks I've had put in the side of my boats because a co angler read in a magazine that he needs to have a certain size rod to pitch with when they really could have gone down an inch or two!- Flipping/Pitching
That's right! What started this was when I saw the guys profile picture he looked like a shorter guy, that's Why I asked his height, I didn't want to tell somebody who is vertically challenged to go out and get a 10 foot rod to try and wield around, lol.- Flipping/Pitching
No, that's not what I was saying! I'm a taller guy, I'm close to 6'5" and in some techniques I throw a longer rod than my partner because it's just a little too much for the way he fishes the technique. Fish with a lot of different people and pay attention to their gear and how the use it, you'll see that different height and build people will choose slightly different rod sizes. For comfort or usability I'm not saying the difference between using a 7'11" or a 7'6" but just an inch or two difference!- Flipping/Pitching
So somebody won't be more comfortable with a shorter or longer rod? All rod lengths are universal for every single person? Is that what you're saying?- Flipping/Pitching
Height has a lot to do with the what length rod you use. Arm length has a lot to do with it. You can help somebody be a lot more comfortable by cutting or adding 1-2 inches of rod length by their height.- Flipping/Pitching
Your height has nothing to do with it? Seriously? Have you ever seen a little kid trying to handle a 7-8' rod with a 3/4-1oz weight on the end of it?- Flipping/Pitching
I would go with a 7'11" extra heavy, I know it sounds like a lot of rod but in my opinion it's needed. You will have a lot more accuracy and distance with a longer rod. And more leverage when you hook one of the giants that comes from flipping/pitching.- Flipping/Pitching
How tall are you? and how heavy of a weight are you planning on throwing? I flip with a 7'11" rod, extra heavy. A 7'6" m/h would be pushing it for me.- Sonor
I would love to drop a plug here and tell you to go get a Lowrance hds 12, and break your bank on top of the line gear but I'm not going to do that. Is there a ( best ) sonar unit to get? Yes. Is that unit best for you? Probably not. so with that being said you have to decide what you need. What you can afford, and if you're going to use it enough to justify the purchase. The owner of the dealership I fish for has a Z-21 That is decked out. almost like my z-20. but when you look at his electronics he has the bare minimum. Depth, standard 2d sonar, water temp, and GPS. That is truly all the average tournament fisherman is going to need. you should be able to compete at the local level and even higher with just that. Now my boat on the other hand has 3 lowrance hds 12's and I know how to read them very well. But since I dropped back to local trails 2 years ago the need for staring at my screens half the day has gone away. To shorten the post up, what I am trying to say is don't go out and spend a load of money on a unit you really don't need. If you're cashing checks at tournaments and think that a good side scan can put you in 1st place instead of 4th then go get it. But if you are finishing 45th out of 50 boats, then don't think that your depth finder is your problem. Hope this helped a little. Good fishing and God Bless.- Liking 'Tough' Conditions
I must be crazy but tough days are my best days, when everyone else is slaying them I will have an average/mediocre bag. But when the days get tough I cash checks. I have no idea why and it bothers me but I will take what I can get.- What To Throw In The Fall
Whats up everybody, I just wanted to get a ball rolling on a topic that is relevant at this time. So lets help everybody out and talk a little on what we like to throw in the fall. I will start of with one of my favorite fishing techniques in the fall months. My favorite technique for the fall is throwing a strike king KVD Swim N Shiner. I throw it on a 1/4 oz weighted hook with 50lb power-pro braid. I use this rig basically anywhere during the fall months but throwing it around grass or cover with baitfish present can be a great way to make some side money during the fall.- New Nitro Z Series boats... anybody running these?
My 2014 z8 is for sale if you are interested message me.- If kvd could change sponsers
Im not sure why he would go from Nitro to Ranger? Yes Ranger makes a great boat but..... Nitro is on top of their game too. Plus Bass Pro Shops and Fishing Holdings LLC, are partners, Which includes Ranger, Triton, and Stratos. As for the other sponsors, I think he will stick with what he has for the most part.- New Nitro Z Series boats... anybody running these?
I currently run a nitro Z-8 2014 model with a 250 pro xs. I can honestly say ntiro is the way to go for me. I just ordered my Z-20 for the 2017 year and I cant wait to get behind the wheel of it.- Anyone else get spooked on Topwater bite?
I have to make myself hold when I am frog fishing, and thats why I enjoy it so much. I watched a video of me during a tournament and every time you heard the water splash you could se me twitch a little and see the expression in my face. Its crazy.- Help with water leaking into compartments
Go get some adhesive weather stripping from your local hardware store, I'll send a picture of what kind to get in a later posts I do this on all of my boats, just to help. But it is a good way to seal off a comprtment, put it around the edge of the opening so the lid creates a seal when it's closed jut like it works on Windows and doors in your house.- Nitro z18
I'm not so sure this is true, I'm not a genius when it comes to the z18's but I just sent an angler up to my dealer which had a Z18 on the floor and I think I remember him asking about a jack plate and him saying it shouldn't be a problem, and the power-poles should definitely not be a problem, I may be wrong but looking at them, I highly doubt this information is correct. I'll investigate further and see what's going on. Nitro makes a great boat, the problem is some dealers and service guys have no clue what they are talking about. Plus the website shows you can get it as an option. Check with a different dealer.- 2 Stroke hours how much is to much?
Ehhhhh, so many variables come in to play with this question, yes 1000 hours is high, but if the motor was taken care of, not driven like it was stolen, and had regular maintenance done to it than it shouldn't be a deal breaker, with it being a smaller engine I wouldn't worry that much about the hours. It should have a good life left in it, however you might have to sink some pocket change in it to keep it running down the line, don't take my word for it though, go with your gut. Me personally I wouldn't worry about it, given the fact it was in my budget and it looked to be in good shape.- 1st bass boat puchase
Check out the new Nitro Z19, they are awesome boats and are very reasonably priced for what you are getting, and if you are going to finance a boat, go ahead and get some Power-Poles to go on it and finance them with the boat. You will not regret the purchase. You should be in the clear on getting the loan, depending on your dti and your salary, but this is where stuff gets real, before you make this purchase think things through very carefully. Not just your credit score, but your needs and what you will be left with after paying a boat payment every month. Don't put yourself in a huge hole just to have a new bigger boat, I wanted a z9 so bad when I was 19 but I couldn't afford it, so I got a z7 instead, I've been through 3 Nitros since then a Z9 and 2 Z8's and in 2 months I'll be getting a new Z21 now the bigger ones spoiled me yes, but I do not regret one piece of my Z7 purchase (other than not getting power poles on it), it did anything and everything I needed it to do without question. Good luck, and I hope you get what you are looking for. - Flipping/Pitching
