Looking for a new cable steering trolling motor, does anyone have any thoughts on the motorguide x5 vs the minnkota maxxum.

I have the x3 and its great for me.  Doesnt have features like x5.  I havent seen many complaints on Motorguide vs Minn Kota.  

Both brands are great, both are going to perform similarly.

If possible, I'd try to look at both installed, see how you like the way they deploy, how the pedal layout and feel work for you.

I've been beating the snot out of a Minn Kota for 4 years with zero non-operator issues (I've done a couple things that required repairs - bent the shaft, pinched a transducer wire) and I know folks who have been doing the same with Motorguide products.

 

I'm on my second X3 (two different boats) and like it quite a bit. First was a 12v 55#, new one is a 24v 70# digital.
