Featured Replies

Hola,

I have not fished a dropshot before but have seen the results when dropshotting

I was wondering what size hooks and weights work best

Thanks, luke

I tend to go smaller when drop shotting.

I'll use a #2 Finesse Wide Gap or a #1 or
#1/0 Split Shot/Drop Shot hook (Gammy).

The hooks he suggested will work great. I like to use a minimum of a 3/16 weight, That way you can keep your line tight when needed.

1/8th ounce is my  go to unless its very deep or windy.

I use the lightest weight I can to still be able to feel the bottom. Wind and water depth will play a role in this.

You can upsize or downsize the bait and/or weight as you see fit to. I prefer a smaller hook when nose hooking the bait and larger when I T-rig.

I like to use a size 4 hook because I nose hook smaller plastics, and keep my weight to 1/8 or 3/16.  I might use a lighter weight when I'm using a lighter setup in dead calm water, or a heavier weight if it's windy or there's a stronger current.

I usually use size 4 hook trokar and 1/4 or 3/16 weight sometimes 1/8

Buy 1/8 to 3/4 and use what feels comfortable for your equipment and fishing depth.

I loathe finesse hooks and nose hooking the bait. A light wire size 1 straight shank worm hook will catch you infinitely more fish. Like you'll literally never miss a fish. Make sure you use your drag a lot and remove the hook with pliers or you'll straighten out the hook.

I use a 1/0 or 2/0 VMC Spinshot or Trokar Helix DS hook. As far as weight goes, I let the conditions dictate that. If you're just starting out, I'd recommend sticking to the heavier weight to get used to the technique first. Being able to keep the weight in one place is key in drop shotting.
