fish finder for a two man boat

Featured Replies

I'm getting another fish finder for my two-man.  Any recommendations?  I look to spend $150-$200.  I was thinking about a portable one such as the Humminbird 535 portable.  I just don't know if the suction cup transducer will stick to my plastic hull!

Regardless of the sonar--where is a good place to mount the transducer?  I use my trolling motor on the rear of the boat.  Or what is a good way to mount a transducer to the trolling motor?  Any help is appreciated.

The suction cup doesn't stick my my two man boat, so I super glued a piece of aluminum to the hull.  The suction cup then has no problem sticking to that.  I would prefer to rig mine to the bow, but it can get pretty torn up there.

So where do you mount your transducer?

i have a bottom line fishing buddy, it mounts like a trolling motor.get the one with sidefinder sonar.less than 200$

This one guy on a TV show had his portable fish finder suction cupped onto his trolling mottor, then tied a string around it. He said it worked pretty well but they'll say anything on TV... ::o

The Hummingbird brand is a great user-friendly fishfinder.

I have used both radiator hose clamps and plastic zip ties to mount the transducer to the trolling motor.  The zip ties don't rust or corrode, but must be cut and re-applied if you move the transducer. The zip ties will get brittle and break if you bump your motor shaft around too much.  Hose clamps don't look as good, but are probably the better choice.  Are you leaving the trolling motor on the boat?  If so, you might consider mounting the transducer to the rear of the hull.  Be sure to put sealant behind and around the screw holes.  The best I've found to seal and to patch holes in my old two man boat is Marine Goop.  It's the only thing I've found that will stick to the plastic.-FOM

I ended up buying a Humminbird Matrix 25 from Cabela's for $159 + S&H.  I think that's a good deal--I did some shopping.   I might try to mount the transducer to the trolling motor but am afraid I would knock it off.  My trolling moter hits the bottom sometimes when I'm shallow.  I mounted my last one on the rear but was always having trouble with the angle of the transducer staying perpendicular to the ground.  Thanks for your help.
