best lures for spawning bass

Recommended Posts

I will be fishing for both small mouth and large mouth bass in WA three weeks from now  The water temps. will most likely be in the low to mid 60's.  I have recently learned that bass spawn  on the full moon cycle. The moon will be full the first day of my trip. The water will be dirty, I will be walking and wading large sections of shore line  little or no current in most places..  I doubt I will be able see beds to cast to.  What would be the best lures to use at this time casting blind.  Most of my bass fishing experience has been with crank baits and spinner baits.  I am hoping to learn to fish soft plastics. I have taken the advice from readers on this forum and purchased  rage claw, hula grubs, and keitech swim baits. As well as the terminal tackle recommended for each of these baits. Any other suggestions.

There is no scientific evidence that says the full moon has any effect on the spawning behavior of black bass.

Fishing for bass during the spawn is not my thing but the evidence says fishing for them at that time probably doesn't have much effect on the success of the spawn. However, If you can't see your feet or the bottom while wading, you will most likely walking through the beds and that cannot be a good thing.

I have heard if you are sight fishing you should choose a color you can see so you can fish the bed and react to a bass taking it off. Makes sense, some guys like to blend in with green pumain or watermelon which is great but choose somthing you can see (if u can in the first place) like chartruse, white, pink, orange. Also some thinks that this might get them angry and attack it instead of gently moving it away from the bed.

I love kietechs they will catch anything, I rig them 3/0 spring lock hook weighted for 3.8 inch size. Sun gill, bluegill flash or male perch. Cast on shore near trees structure anything. Super super slow. Good luck!!!!!!

I fished this river system almost everyday during summer break when I was growing up in the Seventies and early Eighties.  I don't ever remember seeing any beds.  Most of the time I will be standing on dry land.  Most of the shore line is steep and rocky.  Two steps out and it;s over my head.  Will try my best not to step on any beds while wading..  I only have two weeks in the end of May to take my vacation.  Would rather fish post spawn but am not going to spend my time golfing in fear of disturbing Spawning bass.  I will release them in the exact location they were caught unharmed.  Have never believed in moon cycles effecting the fishing before, but I have recently read lots of theories on the subject since getting ready for this trip. Not sure what to believe.  Just want to be as prepared as I can be.  Appreciate any advice.

Catt beat me to it. Tubes are easy for you to see and the tentacles will move around in the slightest current, so you don't need to impart any action to them.

If you are unable to see the beds, the best approach I've found is a PopR worked with a couple of short twitches and then allowed to sit motionless.  The addition of chicken feathers to the rear hook (not too long) will add action while its paused.  The object is to pause it directly over the sweet spot of the bed, so when you do go to move it again, keep it at a very short distance. This way you can cover both the front and backside of a potential bed.

Also remember that not all bass will spawn at the same time.  Full moon or not.
